Planning your “Kid Friendly” Family Safari in Uganda
The Fun Begins – Planning your Family Safari with Children in Uganda
Embarking on a family safari in Uganda’s stunning landscapes with your children or teenagers promises an adventure brimming with excitement and discovery. Unlike traditional safaris, a family-friendly adventure requires thoughtful planning to ensure every member enjoys every moment. Imagine trekking through lush, green jungles, where the rustling of leaves echoes the calls of elusive wildlife—it’s essential to consider the captivating experiences you wish to share as a family. For those eager to witness the majestic gorillas or playful chimpanzees, you can arrange for your kids to participate in engaging activities alongside our experienced, kid-friendly driver-guide, ensuring the entire family has a memorable experience filled with laughter and learning.
Choosing the right accommodations is key to enhancing your family’s safari experience. Vibrant urban centers like Kampala and Entebbe offer a diverse array of lodges and hotels specially designed for families. Selecting places that provide family-friendly amenities can make all the difference. Picture relaxing together in spacious family rooms or enjoying the convenience of connecting suites, where laughter and stories can be shared in cozy living areas after a thrilling day of exploration. These lodges not only provide comfort but also foster the perfect atmosphere for unwinding and bonding, allowing your family to savor the magical moments of your Ugandan adventure.
Decide what Season to go on your Family Safari with Children in Uganda.
Uganda is a captivating family safari destination, rich with diverse landscapes that beckon adventure seekers and nature enthusiasts alike. Picture the majestic Rwenzori Mountains, shrouded in mist and rising dramatically against the skyline, alongside the shimmering expanse of the Great Lakes—most notably Lake Albert and the renowned Lake Victoria, where vibrant birdlife flits above the tranquil waters.
With its temperate climate, Uganda experiences delightful weather throughout the year, making it an ideal destination for exploring its stunning terrain and abundant wildlife. The year is marked by two distinct seasons: high (dry) and low (rainy). The dry Season, spanning from June to August and December to February, is a time when sunlight bathes the savannah, drawing animals to waterholes. It’s the prime opportunity for spectacular wildlife viewing. However, the heat in savannah parks, particularly Kidepo Valley National Park, can soar above 30°C, creating a steamy, sun-soaked environment.
Conversely, the rainy season sweeps in from March to May and October to November, transforming the landscape into a lush paradise where vibrant greenery flourishes. While wildlife spotting can be more challenging as the animals disperse in search of water, this off-peak Season has its own charm, offering a more intimate experience with nature. The roads may become less accessible due to the rains. Still, travelers are rewarded with fewer tourists and significantly lower accommodation rates. Many of the luxurious lodges provide tempting discounts during this time, allowing visitors to revel in Uganda’s breathtaking beauty without straining their budgets.
Planning your Family Safari with Children in Uganda – Here is what we need
We would love to create a memorable adventure for your family! Please share your children’s ages, as this will help us apply any available discounts on park entrance fees and accommodations.
Let us know which parks are at the top of your wishlist and the number of days you plan to spend on Safari. Additionally, please provide your expected arrival and departure times to ensure a seamless planning process.
Are your children interested in going on nature walks or taking short hikes? What animals excite them most—elephants, monkeys, or big cats?
Regarding accommodations, do you prefer moderate comfort or upscale options? If traveling with teens, we can discuss budget-friendly lodging—though these may not have en-suite bathrooms.
Please inform us about any food allergies your children may have and whether they require a car seat or booster chair. Would they enjoy meeting local African children for cultural experiences?
For adventurous parents, are you interested in trekking with gorillas or chimpanzees? Remember, teens must be at least 15 for Gorilla Trekking (or turning 15 this year with a waiver); the minimum age for Chimpanzee Trekking is 12.
We look forward to crafting an unforgettable journey for your family!

Take out a Travel Insurance Policy when Booking your Safari!
We strongly recommend obtaining travel insurance when you book a safari with us.
Before starting your Safari in Uganda, securing travel insurance is not just advisable; it is essential. Travel insurance serves as a safety net, offering crucial financial protection against unforeseen events and emergencies during your trip.
A comprehensive travel insurance policy typically covers various expenses, including medical emergencies, trip cancellations or interruptions, lost or delayed baggage, emergency evacuations, and travel delays. It’s crucial to thoroughly review the policy details to ensure they meet your specific needs and provide adequate coverage.
Investing in travel insurance helps minimize potential financial risks, allowing you to fully enjoy your safari experience. In the face of unexpected challenges, such as health emergencies or disruptions to your plans, having travel insurance means you can relax, knowing you have the support and assistance necessary to handle any situation that may arise during your journey. Don’t leave your safari experience to chance—secure your peace of mind with travel insurance.
