Planning your “Kid Friendly” Family Safari in Uganda
The Fun Begins – Planning your Family Safari with Children in Uganda
Planning your Family Safari with Children in Uganda: Going on a family safari with your teens or children in Uganda is an exciting adventure, and it’s time to start planning! A family-friendly safari requires more thorough preparation than a traditional safari. It’s essential to consider the activities and experiences you want to share as a family, particularly if you’re interested in trekking gorillas or chimpanzees. In such cases, you can arrange for your children to participate in different, engaging activities with our experienced kid-friendly driver-guide, ensuring that everyone enjoys their time.
When selecting accommodations, the options available can significantly enhance your family’s experience. Popular towns like Kampala and Entebbe offer a range of lodges and hotels. It’s crucial to choose places that provide family-friendly amenities. We recommend lodges that offer family rooms, connecting suites, or separate accommodations with shared living areas, allowing your family to unwind together after a day of adventure.
Several national parks in Uganda are especially well-suited for family safaris. Among these are Murchison Falls National Park, known for its diverse wildlife and spectacular falls; Queen Elizabeth National Park, famous for its tree-climbing lions and beautiful landscapes; Lake Mburo National Park, which offers gentle boat rides and opportunities for walking safaris; and the more remote Kidepo Valley National Park, ideal for families with older children looking for a unique and less crowded experience.
For lodging, we prioritize lodges that provide comfortable rooms with private bathrooms, ensuring every family member has their own space. Many lodges also cater to children’s dietary needs, offering meal options that appeal to younger palates. This attention to detail helps create a more enjoyable dining experience for everyone.
Suppose you’re traveling with a more prominent family. In that case, we’ll seek out lodges that offer family units with living rooms, kitchenettes, or even outdoor spaces for leisure. These accommodations enhance your comfort and foster family bonding during your downtime.
Planning your Family Safari with Children in Uganda, Planning your family safari is not just a practical necessity; it’s an essential part of your family’s adventure in Uganda. The more information and input you provide regarding your interests and requirements, the better we can customize your itinerary to create a memorable experience. We fully respect your preferences and wishes, ensuring that each detail, from activities to accommodations, is carefully considered.
Involving your children in the planning stages can also enhance their anticipation and excitement for the trip. Deliberating over the types of wildlife they wish to see, the activities they are interested in, and the adventures that await them will make the journey to Uganda even more thrilling. This shared planning process lays the foundation for fantastic family memories to come!

Decide what Season to go on your Family Safari with Children in Uganda:
Uganda is an enchanting family safari destination with diverse geography, including the breathtaking Rwenzori Mountains and the iconic Great Lakes, such as Lake Albert and Lake Victoria. The temperate climate offers pleasant weather year-round, which is ideal for adventure and nature lovers.
The seasons are divided into high seasons (dry seasons) and low seasons (rainy seasons). The dry season, from June to August and December to February, features minimal rainfall, making it the best time for wildlife viewing as animals gather around available water sources. However, temperatures in savannah parks can exceed 30°C, especially in Kidepo Valley National Park.
The rainy season occurs from March to May and October to November, bringing lush greenery but making wildlife spotting difficult due to plentiful water. This off-peak season may feature poor road conditions but offers fewer tourists and lower accommodation prices. Many luxury lodges provide significant discounts during this time, allowing travelers to enjoy Uganda’s beauty at a more affordable rate.
Understanding the seasonal patterns can enhance your safari experience and help you connect with Uganda’s unique wildlife and stunning landscapes. Stunning landscapes. Landscapes.
Month by Month – High Seasons are the Dry Seasons of the Year
The busiest seasons of the year are from Mid-June to September. October is the shoulder season’s transition month, moving toward the rainy Season. September and October have fewer tourists.
The Other High-and Dry Season is from mid-December to March, and March is the transition or shoulder season month.
Low Seasons – Rainy Seasons of the Year
April to Mid-June is part of the rainy Season. Luxury Lodges lower their rates during those times, but dates vary lodge by lodge. The benefits for some are fewer people, and the Savannah parks begin to bloom afresh.
November into Mid-December is the other rainy Season. Rainy Season in Uganda does not mean Monsoon like weather. Most rain falls at night, and the sun still comes out, but the trails are muddy.
Gorilla Trekking and Chimpanzee Trekking take place in Rainforests. There it can rain anytime. However, most rain falls at night or early pre-dawn morning hours.
Safaris occur all year, and Safari-Goers always have an extraordinary time.
