Day 2: Gorilla Trekking:
Start your day with a hearty breakfast that will fuel you for an exciting adventure as you prepare to visit the gentle giants of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Before you head out, you’ll need several essential items for today’s trek to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. Don’t forget to pack a substantial lunch provided by the lodge, a light, comfortable backpack to carry your essentials, and a light rain jacket in case of unexpected weather.
Invest in a sturdy pair of lightweight hiking boots, which will provide the grip and support you need on uneven terrain. It’s advisable to wear long-sleeved shirts to protect your skin from potential scrapes caused by branches and to fend off stinging nettles that may be in your path. Also, don’t forget to bring a wide-brimmed hat to shield yourself from the sun, ensuring your comfort throughout the trek. And remember to wear long trousers or jeans to protect your legs from brush and undergrowth. Gardening gloves can also be beneficial, giving you extra grip and protection when navigating branches and vines as you approach the Mountain Gorillas.
Many visitors often ask, “Is gorilla trekking worth it?” The answer is a resounding yes! You will soon discover your answer during the unforgettable hour spent with these majestic Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi’s ancient rainforest. This encounter is not just a trek, it’s a unique and life-changing experience, unlike any other nature adventure you’ve had.
The gorilla tracking experience can vary, taking anywhere from a couple of hours to more than five, depending on the movement of the Mountain Gorilla families. These incredible creatures travel significant distances daily and build new nests every night for rest. The group you will visit is habituated, meaning they have become accustomed to the presence of humans, allowing for a more intimate and less stressful interaction. Prepare yourself for an awe-inspiring experience that will leave you inspired and cherished for years.

Day 3: Ishasha Wilderness Camp:
After breakfast at Bwindi Lodge, we take a scenic, short drive to the breathtaking Ishasha area of Queen Elizabeth National Park. As we arrive at our destination, you will check into the exclusive Ishasha Wilderness Tented Camp. Nestled along the picturesque Ntungwe River, this camp features large, luxurious tents equipped with en-suite bathrooms, providing comfort and a touch of wilderness.
The camp is perfectly positioned to offer stunning views of the surrounding environment. From your luxury tent or the comfortable main lodge, you may often see elephants meandering nearby as they come to bathe and drink from the river. The camp’s dining options are equally inviting. You can choose between the elegant dining room or an alfresco meal along the riverbank, where the soothing sounds of nature complement the fabulous setting.
Ishasha Wilderness Camp is the only lodge situated within the Ishasha region of the park. It offers a truly luxurious tented experience, blending modern comforts with the rough beauty of the African bush. The camp prides itself on providing excellent service and superb meals that delight the taste buds and are beautifully presented, offering a feast for the eyes.
During your stay, don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy a traditional bush breakfast—a cherished experience that many guests find unforgettable. Imagine savoring a freshly prepared breakfast amidst the vast, open savannah, shaded by the branches of a majestic tree, with the sounds of wildlife all around you. Additionally, we can arrange a memorable sundowner experience in the wild, reminiscent of colonial times when the British would enjoy a gin and tonic as they took their evening respite from the day’s heat.
One of the camp’s most alluring features is its natural wilderness ambiance, which sets it apart from some of the more frequently visited areas in the northern sections of Queen Elizabeth Park. Take a moment to settle in and absorb the stunning surroundings of the African wild at Ishasha Tented Camp. This experience is distinctively different from the lush, dense landscapes of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, offering an excellent contrast.
Ishasha is the best location in Africa to witness the fascinating tree-climbing lions. This rare spectacle draws wildlife enthusiasts from around the globe. Yet, the region offers much more than just this iconic sight. You can expect to encounter large herds of elephants, stately buffaloes, and various graceful antelope species, including the topi and the Uganda kob. Additionally, this area is home to elusive leopards, a diverse array of savannah birds, and, for the keen-eyed observer, the chance to spot the remarkable shoebill stork near the tranquil lake swamps. Each moment spent here is a unique experience, immersing you in the rich tapestry of wildlife and nature that defines Ishasha. Read more about Ishasha Wilderness Camp
Afternoon Game Drive in Search of the Tree-Climbing Lions
Go on an exciting afternoon game drive in Ishasha, a great place to see tree-climbing lions. These lions sleep for up to fifteen hours a day. While we don’t know why, it may be to avoid annoying insects. Some experts think it might also be a learned behavior.
You will explore in an open-air safari vehicle, which gives you a clear view of the wildlife. Look for tree-climbing lions, elephants, and different kinds of antelopes, like the beautiful Topi and Uganda Kob. Keep an eye out for a leopard or two in this less-visited part of Queen Elizabeth National Park.
After the game drive, head back to Ishasha Wilderness Tented Camp. You can relax by the river and watch elephants come to drink and bathe in the Ntungwe River. Their playful behavior makes for a lovely scene.
As the sun sets, you can enjoy a drink at the lodge along the river or on your tent’s deck. Finally, enjoy a tasty dinner at Ishasha Wilderness Camp to end your day on a high note.

Day 4: Ishasha Wilderness Area
We invite you to start your day with a delightful Bush Breakfast this morning. Leave behind any old expectations you may have had about camping breakfasts. A safari bush breakfast has transformed into a cherished tradition that elevates the experience, moving far beyond the simple meals once shared by famous explorers like Ernest Hemingway or Karen Blixen.
The dedicated crew from Ishasha Wilderness Camp will skillfully prepare a breakfast tailored to your preferences, serving it in the heart of the bush. They cover every detail, so you won’t miss your favorite foods. To make the most of your morning, we recommend enjoying breakfast first, as the famous tree-climbing lions usually don’t start their ascent until around 8 am. This timing will enhance your chances of spotting these magnificent creatures during your game drive.
As you savor your breakfast in the scenic wilderness, you’ll have the opportunity to witness the majesty of nature surrounding you. The tranquil setting and the sounds of birds and wildlife will create a truly immersive experience. After your bush breakfast, spend some leisurely time at the Lodge. Here, you can indulge in a delicious lunch while enjoying the serene views of the Ntungwe River, where vibrant wildlife and various bird species can often be seen.
In the afternoon, set out on another exciting game drive. This time, you’ll have the chance to visit the renowned tree-climbing lions and explore other fascinating wildlife in the area. As the day draws to a close, embrace the sundowner tradition. Unlike the British colonialists, who preferred their classic gin and tonic, you can access a diverse selection of beverages catering to every taste. Along with your drinks, we provide a delightful array of freshly prepared snacks to enhance the experience.
Finally, enjoy your sundowner with the picturesque backdrop of an African sunset in the bush. This truly unique and unforgettable experience will linger in your memory long after the day is over.
