3 Day Semliki Valley Wildlife – Birding – Chimpanzee Safari takes you into the Ituri Rainforest that spills over from the Congo into Uganda. Visit the Bambuti Pygmies who are more closely related to their neighbors in the Congo than the Batwa Pymgies. If you are birder – the Semliki Valley is paradise for you with over 350 species of birds. The Semliki Valley is different from any part of Uganda – you enter as you slope down the Western Rift Escarpment with savannah, tropical rainforest, the Semliki River and Lake Albert below you.
Day 1- Semliki Valley:
3 Day Semliki Valley Wildlife – Birding – Chimpanzee Safari begins. Depart Kampala at 6:30 am and take the six hour journey to the Semliki Valley – check into the lodge of our choice.
Lunch and a visit to the Bambuti Pygmy community – today they have their own English Speaking Guides and receive the money that the tourists commit, in the past that was not the case. The Bambuti are allowed to grow their own marijuana and smoke it out of their ancient pipes before they go out on the hunt. The Bambuti were evicted during the 1990’s from the Park and Wildlife Reserve – however today they are allowed to some minimal hunting and gathering there.
Dinner
Nocturnal Game Drive where you see the predators on the prowl at night such as leopard as they go after their prey. A most rewarding time for you.

Day 2 – Semliki Valley
Breakfast and you are off for your Chimpanzee Trek in the Uganda side of the Ituri Forest. The Chimpanzees here in Semliki have been habituated by Indiana University researchers.
Best to wear for your Chimpanzee Trek: light – day-pack, boots, long trousers, long-sleeved shirt, light rain-jacket, hat, 2 liters of water and snack.
While Chimpanzee Trekking you will as well might see some bird species such as the chestnut owlet, spotted-breasted ibis, Congo serpent eagle, black-throated coucal, chestnut-flanked goshawk, black-wattled hornbill, red-thighed sparrow hawk, red-rumped tinker bird, long-tailed hawk, Zenker’s honey guide,
Option: Lake Albert Boat Ride where you will see the Shoebill Stork.
Afternoon Game drive where you will see buffaloes, forest elephants, antelopes, leopards and more.

Day 3: Semliki Valley – Kampala
Breakfast and a nature walk to Sempaya Hot Springs
Lunch
Return to Kampala by early evening.
