Why do we include Mount Gahinga Lodge in our Safaris?
The primary reason why we use Mount Gahinga Lodge is that not one of our clients has ever voiced a complaint about the Lodge. That in our business is most welcomed, yet a rarity. Mount Gahinga exceeds most accommodation standards and sets new ones. The level of service is world-class, and the meals are superb. The furnishings exude subdued elegance, not tacky attempts of pretense.
Our clients have raved about the gourmet meals resulting from Ugandan Chefs being trained by top-flight chefs from Europe and beyond. Meals are prepared using local fresh ingredients that are grown explicitly according to the standards set forth by the Lodge.
We use the Lodge because of the exemplary workPraveen Momam in conservation and people conservation for the maligned Batwa People. Praveen Momam grew up in the area where his father was a civil servant during Colonial Times. During Idi Amin’s time, the family and thousands of others of Indian descent were evicted. Yet he never forgot the place of his younger years where he and his father used to explore the forests and hills surrounding Kisoro.
As Uganda’s troubled times ended, he erected Mount Gahinga Lodge. Walter Baumgärtel, a Gorilla Conservation and Gorilla Tourism pioneer, was one of his role models, as was Dian Fossey, who often visited the Travelers Rest Hotel in Kisoro that Walter Baumgärtel.
In recent years Praveen Momam’s foundation built the Gahinga Batwa Village. The lives of the least and lost, the most voiceless Batwa were given a home, a village, school, trade school, and more.
Now you understand why we use Mount Gahinga Lodge for our Safaris in Uganda.
