Lost, Missing, or Delayed Luggage is rare, but it happens occasionally, and we have had it happen to some of our clients.
The Safari is locked into place, and the Permits for Gorilla Trekking cannot be changed. If your Luggage is lost or delayed, we know how to make the Safari go on.
By planning, you can continue with your Safari while we continue to collect your delayed or lost Luggage. Usually, your Luggage will arrive a day or two later, and we will get it to you.
Below you will find information to allow you to continue your Safari as planned while your Luggage is lost in transit.
Going On Safari While Your Luggage is Lost – Missing – Delayed:
You’ve landed in Uganda – Rwanda, for your Dream Safari. Tomorrow you are scheduled to head for Gorilla Trekking. You are standing by the luggage carousel with bags rolling in except yours. The reality of what every traveler fears have taken place – missing, lost, delayed Luggage.
Tomorrow you are scheduled to head toward Volcanoes National Park or Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for Gorilla Trekking.
Your daypack, light rain jacket, boots, long-sleeved shirt, trousers, and heavy trousers are not with you, but in the lost, missing, and delayed Luggage, and unlike in the West, the next flight where your Luggage could be sent not a few hours later. Still, the next day, or a few days after, your Safari in Africa is clouded by doom and gloom.
Here are some ways you can prepare for lost Luggage going on Safari:
- Maximize carry-on Luggage using a daypack – a carry-on suitcase or duffel bag.
- Pack the things you will need for two days of your Safari – including all electronics, cameras, phones, and iPad.
- On Board, the Plane, Wear Trousers – a long-sleeved Shirt, Hat, Hiking Boots, and Socks.
It is not about Fashion on the plane, it is about your Safar, our, and your Safari is the priority and goal.
We will do all we can to claim your Luggage and ship it to the lodge where you will be. It can take up to 24, depending on your location. If you have not prepared by doing the above, there is Plan B.
Plan B – Going on Safari while your Luggage is Lost – Missing – Delayed
If your Luggage is not with your flight, the Safari still goes on, and we go with plan B. Hopefully, you packed things into your daypack that will allow the Safari to continue without problems.
We also take you to a market such as Owino, where you can buy the clothing you need, including shoes, for about 50 USD. They will be second-hand clothing; we will get them washed and ironed for you. We will take you to buy new undergarments, underwear, and socks.
Due to Gorilla and Chimpanzee Permits, we are locked into a schedule that is not changeable, but Lodges may be easier to change during the rarest of times. Still, it depends on the availability that they have.
Airline Compensation:
Be sure to claim compensation for your incurred costs with the airline carrier you used. Different airlines have different procedures, make your claim immediately, and you will need receipts in most cases.
Check your various insurance policies, including the Travel Insurance Policy you have taken out for this trip.
Claims must typically be filed within seven days of the incident. You can further pursue your claim with appropriate government agencies in your country of Origin.
