Getting to Mgahinga Gorilla Park – Mgahinga Gorilla Park in the Southwest Corner of Uganda on the border with Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Park is Uganda’s smallest park, yet the place with many activities such as Gorilla, Golden Monkey Trekking, Hiking and Nature Trails, Virunga Volcano Climbs, Nature Trails and HIkes, plus the famous Batwa Trail with the first people of the Forest.
Getting here the easy way is done in 3 different ways that will not wear you out like a 9-hour drive from Entebbe to the Park in southwest Uganda. Those that visit Southwest Uganda often do not know that there is an easier way than a long drive from Entebbe.

Getting to Mgahinga Gorilla Park in Uganda – The Best and Easiest Ways
Fly into Kigali and drive to Mgahinga Gorilla Park:
From Kigali, Rwanda it is a mere 3 hours plus depending on the border crossing to Mgahinga Park. A half hour longer than it takes you to drive to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, the tradeoff is that you save 900 USD on the Gorilla Permit since Permits run 1500 USD in Rwanda and 600 USD in Uganda. (The savings will almost pay for two nights at the exclusive Mount Gahinga Lodge)
RwandAir, the National Airline of Rwanda has added direct flights to London, Brussels, many quality airlines fly into Kigali such as Emirates, Qatar, Turkish Air, Kenya Air, Ethiopian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, KLM to name a few, making a Kigali International Airport a gateway to Southwest Uganda.
Many of our Clients either fly into Rwanda and Trek Gorillas in Uganda, while others extend their safari far beyond the Southwest of Uganda and include other parks such as Queen Elizabeth Park, Kibale Forest, Mburo National Park and at the end of the safari they fly out of Entebbe.
The second best choice for those that can afford it is flying from Entebbe International Airport to Kisoro and it is a short drive (14 kilometers) to Mgahinga Gorilla Park. This is the fastest and most convenient way but comes at a price.
In-country fares can run higher than flights in Europe and North America. The convenience outweighs the cost with many who have the funds. This is a scenic flight over the Gorilla Highlands, Lake Bunyonyi, you see the Virunga Volcanoes before landing in Kisoro. The negative is that you can only have 30 Pounds of luggage.
You can make your fly in safari a fly – drive safari where we continue your time in Uganda or Rwanda by Vehicle. You have the choice of flying out from Kigali or from Entebbe depending on the location of the last park that is visited on your safari.
Mgahinga Gorilla Park is the closest Gorilla Trekking site in Uganda from Kigali – Rwanda.
Not only can you trek Mountain Gorilla in this park with its 3 Volcanoes, but you can trek the Golden Monkeys, Climb Volcanoes and hit the Hiking Trails, Birding and interactive cultural encounters with the Batwa Pygmies.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is one hour from here, and many choose to trek Gorillas both in Mgahinga Gorilla Park and Bwindi Forest.
One of the features of the park is that unlike other parks in both Uganda and Rwanda, there are no crowds. It is not Uganda’s Primary Gorilla Trekking site but it is the park where the Silver meets the Gold. (Golden Monkeys and silverback Gorilla).
