Wild Encounters take place in some of Africa’s most incredible places.
Where else can you meet face-to-face with a gigantic Mountain Gorilla Silverback? Where else can you be amid a screeching, hooting troop of Chimpanzees? Where else can you observe lions sleeping the day away in a fig tree?
Where else can you track Rhinos on foot, see the enormous Nile Crocodiles, the most significant concentration of hippos, or have Golden Monkeys playfully jump over you?
Only in Uganda, the Pearl of Africa, can you do everything and many more in one country—the perfect Post-Pandemic Safari destination on the African Continent.
Here are Incredible Wild Encounters in Uganda:
1. Incredible Wild Gorilla Encounters:
Face-to-Face Encounters with a Mountain Gorilla. Two distinctly different habitats to choose from. You can track the Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a 25,000 plus years old rainforest that would be a significant attraction without the mountain gorillas. Here you find the largest concentration of Mountain Gorillas in Africa.
Your other choice for encountering the gentle giants of the Forest is in Mgahinga Gorilla Park in the shadows of the Virunga Volcanoes. You climb to the Bamboo Forests and beyond for your gorilla family encounter.
In encounters, Uganda offers something different for the great ape enthusiast: more time and fewer participants in the Gorilla Habituation Experience. For many, that is the ultimate Mountain Gorilla Encounter, and it is up to four hours with a gorilla family and only four instead of eight participants.

2. Incredible Wild Chimpanzee Encounters:
You have seen them in zoos, but never have you been surrounded by a troop of hooting chimpanzees in the jungle. That is precisely what an encounter with our closest animal kingdom cousins is like.
Your memorable personal Chimpanzee encounter is one of the highlights of your safari in Uganda.
With over 5,000, Uganda is the premier Chimpanzee destination in East Africa.
One thousand five hundred plus Chimpanzees live in Kibale Forest and 12 other primates earning it the nickname “the Primate Capital of East Africa.”
On a Chimpanzee Trek, you not only seek them but see them. The success rate of being with them on a trek is over 90%. In actuality, no client of ours in over a decade has ever missed an encounter with them.
Uganda offers an additional choice for primate enthusiasts. It is the chimpanzee habituation experience, where you spend more time with them than on a regular trek.
Additionally, chimpanzees can be tracked in the Kalinzu forest, the Kyambura Gorge in Queen Elizabeth Park, Semiliki National Park, Budongo Forest, and hopefully soon in Bugoma Forest.

3. Incredible Wild Golden Monkey Encounters:
While mountain gorillas and chimpanzees might need little introduction, the Golden Monkeys found only in the Virunga Volcanoes do.
The rare and endangered Golden Monkeys in Africa are only found in the Virunga Volcanoes range that spans Rwanda, Uganda, and DR Congo. They are not to be confused with the Chinese Golden Hair Monkeys but are endemic to the Virungas. Most are in Mgahinga Gorilla Park, making Uganda the best country to see them in.
Gorilla Trekkers often overlook the Golden Monkeys, not realizing how easily one can combine Gorilla Tracking with Golden Monkey Trekking.
The monkeys are beautiful primates, have colorful coats, and weigh about 15 kg. They reside in the Bamboo Forests of the Volcanoes. A troop of Golden Monkeys numbers up to 100. They are noisy, playful, and all around you, even jumping over you.
You can choose between a regular Golden Monkey Trek, where you are for one hour with a Golden Monkey Troop, and your other choice is to spend Four-hours with the Golden Monkeys on a Golden Monkey Habituation Experience.

4. Incredible Wild Lion Encounters:
Uganda is the Best Country for Tree-Climbing Lions, and they can be seen on Game Drives in the Ishasha area of Queen Elizabeth Park. The lions spend over 15 hours in Fig, and Acacia Trees are found here. There are about 50 lions that have taken to climbing trees to sleep the day away after a night of hunting. The Tree-Climbing Lions can easily be combined with a Gorilla Trekking Safari in the Buhoma area of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
You can do something unusual in Uganda’s Queen Elizabeth Park. You can participate in the Lion Tracking Research, which tracks collared lions on the Kasenyi Plains of Queen Elizabeth Park. This is with the Uganda Carnivore project.
A project that works with the local community surrounding Queen Elizabeth Park’s Mweya area. This is a one-of-a-kind wild-encounter experience that you will not soon forget.

5. Incredible Wild Rhino Encounters:
In Uganda, you trek Rhinos on foot at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. With an Uganda Wildlife Authority guiding you, you get as close as seven meters to these majestic animals. This is another one-of-a-kind activity in Uganda, and Rhino Trekking is most often done with a vehicle and not on foot.
You will spend about two hours on the trek with a ranger. It will be about the closest you will ever get to a Rhino. You are within seven meters of them, accompanied by a Ranger guide, and he will inform you about the habits and ways of the Rhinos in the Wild. Most often, you will see other species of Wildlife while trekking the Rhinos.
You can stay overnight at Amuka Lodge and spend the night with the Rhinos. The sanctuary is located halfway to Murchison Fall Park from Kampala.

There are over 1,000 of them in Murchison Falls Park. To see herds of 50 or more is not uncommon, and they can be seen on game drives or hot air balloon rides in Murchison Falls Park. Fewer Giraffes can be spotted in Kidepo Valley Park and Lake Mburo National Park.
You can have an up-close Giraffe Encounter on foot in the Chobe area of Murchison Falls Park, Kidepo Valley Park, and Lake Mburo National Park.

Uganda’s Elephants have made a comeback in Uganda. Uganda’s Elephant was decimated during Uganda’s turbulent days of Idi Amin and Milton Obote’s time. Since 1986 Uganda’s Elephants have rebounded, and in some parks, they are back to the 1960s.
Uganda has both Savannah and Forest Elephants; most cannot tell the difference. Forest Elephants are smaller in size, have straight tusks, and are a bit more reddish.
Forest elephants are found in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Mgahinga Gorilla Park, Kibale Forest, and in the Moon’s foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains.
Elephants are often seen on game drives, hikes, treks, and nature walks in various parks.
