Day 1 – Ruboni Village – Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon:
3 Days in the Foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon Safari begins. Depart Kampala at 6:30 am in the morning – head west toward Fort Portal and then Ruboni. Our Aim is to arrive in Ruboni for a late lunch at the lodge that you have chosen here.

Equator Snow Lodge is an upmarket lodge that is beyond expectations. Stone and Wood Cottages, the stones gathered from the nearby river to create this Shangri-La in the Rwenzori Mountains Foothills.
The stone cottages have a fireplace to take the chills off of the cold Rwenzori Mountains nights. You have a lot of space to relax and be, even your bathroom has a nice view.
The meals served here are excellent, the staff is service orientated, friendly and very helpful to make your stay here most comfortable. Ruboni Community Camp hosts visitors from around the world and at the same time help the local community with jobs and funding for various community projects.

Late Lunch
During the afternoon it is time meet your local host community, the Bakonzo People who are the keepers of the Mountains and live in the shadow of them. Many of them are employed as guides, porters, working at either Ruboni Community Camp of the Equator Snow Lodge.
Take in the meet and greet Village walk through Community where you spend time with the blacksmith who continues to make tools as in the days of old over an open fire at his workshop shed. There is the traditional healer which in rural communities such as Ruboni is heavily relied on. The medicines are gathered from the forests and hill, roots, leaves, berries that treat various ailments and some with pretty good success.
Watch and take part in harvesting and preparing a meal. Most Bakonzo People have a garden where to grow the things that they eat. The also raise chickens, goats and keep some livestock.
Meet with a Village Elder who tells the stories of his people and the Mountains that surround them. Though there are schools today, the traditional way is still the oral Tradition of telling the story to the young.
Here in Ruboni you can Dance and Drumming lessons for a reasonable fee.
Dinner – at either the Equator Snow Lodge or Ruboni Community Camp you will have local dancers and drummers highlight the cultural ways of the Bakonzo People.

Day 2 – Rwenzori Mountain Foothill – Hill Climb:

You can choose from a 1/2 day or full-day hike in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains. The hill hike from Ruboni is one of the most popular ones.
It is led by an English Speaking Ruboni Guide who will take you up on a hike that takes a moderate level of fitness.

This is an off the beaten track hiking adventure and you will not meet many on the trail if any.
If you take a half-day hike – have lunch at your lodge – either relax for the afternoon or learn how to weave baskets and other African Crafts. At the same time make some new Ugandan Friends.

Morning forest walk, where you can see wildlife and birds.
This is a 3-hour hike where you can see the 3-horned chameleon, birds including Ross Turaco, primates and rare times – forest elephants.
As to learn how to fish with your hands in the river. You will love it.

We drive back to Kampala where we arrive in the evening after 3 days on a Hiking Safari in Ruboni.
