Your 3-Day Value+ Midrange Murchison Falls Park Wildlife Safari in Detail
Day 1 – Travel to Murchison Falls Park:
Start your 3-Day Value+ Midrange Murchison Falls Park Wildlife Safari by leaving Kampala or Entebbe at 6:00 am. You’ll be heading to Murchison Falls Park, the biggest national park in Uganda. It takes about 6 hours to reach there from Kampala, but the journey is worth it.
As you travel north, passing through towns like Luweero and Masindi, you’ll see the beautiful green landscape, small villages, towns, and roadside vendors selling food and drinks. The scenery keeps changing, so the trip is exciting and never dull.
Arrive at Pakuba Lodge at Lunchtime.
Pakuba Lodge – Moderately Priced
Pakuba Lodge is a popular destination for wildlife enthusiasts in Murchison Falls National Park. It is located on the east bank of the Albert Nile and is isolated from other lodge locations. From your balcony, you can witness various wildlife, including giraffes, Uganda kobs, leopards, and other animals that often roam around the lodge area.
Your room at Pakuba Lodge is spacious and equipped with air conditioning. You can choose between a king-size bed or twin beds. All rooms have private bathrooms. The lodge offers delicious meals served in a dining area, and there’s even a swimming pool where you can relax and unwind after the drive from Kampala or Entebbe.
The main highlight of Pakuba Lodge is its proximity to wildlife. It is the closest lodge to the Buligi circuit, and it only takes 45 minutes to reach the starting point of the Boat Cruise. According to the Bradt Guide to Uganda, while there may be more stylish and upscale options in Murchison Falls, Pakuba Lodge provides excellent value and lets you be right in the heart of the wildlife action.
Afternoon Game Drive:
Go for a late afternoon game drive in Murchison Falls National Park. An experienced Uganda Wildlife Authority Ranger will accompany you on the vehicle, with a pop-up roof allowing you to stand up and observe the wildlife along one of the tracks on the Buligi Circuit.
Your driver-guide and the ranger will help you spot and identify animals and birds you might not notice. During the drive, you can expect to see elephants, buffaloes, different types of antelopes, lions, and leopards.
We hope the late afternoon game drive will be fruitful regarding wildlife sightings. The campaign will last approximately two hours.
After returning to the lodge, we recommend enjoying a traditional Safari Sundowner. Sit on your veranda, take in the stunning wildlife and scenery before you, and savor the peacefulness of the moment.
Meal Plan: Lunch – Dinner
Day 2 – Murchison Falls Park:
Morning Game Drive:
You can have breakfast or a cup of coffee before heading out. Dawn typically occurs around 6:30 am, and the sun rises at approximately 6:45 am. This is when carnivores return from their night hunts, and the savannah comes alive for another day. It’s also an excellent time to spot a variety of birds.
Make sure to keep your camera handy in case you come across a great photo opportunity. Using a bean bag to rest your camera can help you capture steady pictures of lions or leopards.
After the morning game drive, which lasts about three hours, we suggest taking some leisure time at the lodge. You can relax by the pool, stay connected with family and friends through the internet, or meet new people and share stories about your safari adventures. The next activity on the itinerary is a wildlife boat cruise on the Nile, which will take place after lunch.
Wildlife Boat Cruise to the Bottom of the Falls:
After enjoying a satisfying lunch, one of the highlights of your Murchison Falls National Park Safari awaits you—the boat safari trip up the Nile River. You’ll leisurely cruise along the riverbank, observing various wildlife, including crocodiles, hippos, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, and birds like fish, eagles, and storks. The boat follows the left-hand side of the river, allowing you to see most of the animals that come to the river. You’ll witness herds of elephants cooling off, playful hippos, and crocodiles basking in the African sun.
As you continue, you’ll encounter the magnificent Murchison Falls, the most powerful waterfall in the world. The River Nile, which is 50 meters wide above the falls, flows through a 6-meter gorge and plummets 43 meters, creating a booming sound and showcasing the dynamic forces of nature.
Upon reaching the bottom of the falls, you’ll disembark and embark on a guided hike along the awe-inspiring Murchison Falls—the same trail Winston Churchill used during his visit in 1907. As you make your way up, you’ll be refreshed by the mist from the falls, keeping you comfortable. At the top, your driver-guide will be waiting for you. You’ll cross the Nile by ferry and return to Pakuba Lodge for a delicious dinner and a well-deserved rest.
Meal Plan: Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner
Day 3 – Murchison Falls Park – Return to Kampala or Entebbe:
Morning Game Drive:
After having an early morning breakfast, it’s time for your final morning game drive. Every game drive in the African Wilderness is unique and presents new opportunities for wildlife sightings. By this point, you might have already spotted the four members of the Big Five (elephant, buffalo, lion, and leopard), and now you have the chance to track and observe rhinos on foot.
Rhino Tracking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary
We will go towards Kampala or Entebbe and stop at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. This sanctuary is a large and well-protected area enclosed by a fence. It is home to approximately 33 rhinos and a diverse range of other wildlife.
While at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, you can go on a boat ride in Lugogo Swamp. This swamp is an excellent location to spot the ancient-looking shoebill. Additionally, several trails are available to hike alongside rangers and observe wildlife and birds.
One of the unique activities offered here is Rhino Tracking. Accompanied by a ranger, you will embark on a foot trek to get up close with the rhinos. This thrilling experience lasts for about 1 1/2 hours.
Before or after your Rhino Tracking adventure, you will enjoy a pleasant lunch at the Z|iwa Rhino Sanctuary.
Afterward, we will continue our journey towards Kampala or Entebbe, where the Safari concludes in the late afternoon.
