Uganda has quietly become the T.J.Maxx Destination of Gorilla Tourism
The Pearl of Africa where Gorilla Permits are affordable – Uganda-the T.J.Maxx Gorilla Trekking Destination of Africa
Uganda-the T.J.Maxx Gorilla Trekking Destination of Africa? That is our opinion based on our personal experience as a Gorilla Tour Operator that long offered Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda and Uganda. In May of 2017, Rwanda turned Gorilla Tourism on its head when it doubled its Gorilla Permit Prices from 750 USD to 1,500 USD while Uganda wisely remained at 600 USD.
It was Rwanda’s Goal to do more with fewer but more affluent Tourists. The move was highly criticised by Tourism Gurus such as Professor Wolfgang E. Thome, the Wanderlust movement, even the pro, and anti-Uganda Africa Answer Man chimed in with his two it denouncing the move. Rwandan Tour Operators were aghast but politely kept quiet, some midrange and budget hotel and lodge operators were not so kind.
Uganda, on the other hand, received an unprecedented boost of Gorilla Trekkers that now chose to trek in Uganda instead of Rwanda. We call it |The great Gorilla Trekker Migration’ which resulted having to say more no than yes in regards to Gorilla Permit availability during June through September.
Uganda Gorilla Trekking means Keeping your Standards High and your spending Low. – a slogan that is often used to describe T.J. Maxx. If Rwanda with its high Gorilla Permit Prices is over the top for you then Uganda is the right choice without compromising the quality and experience of being with the Gentle Giants of the Forest and where all welcomed and not just the rich and famous.
Uganda-the T.J.Maxx Gorilla Trekking Destination of Africa – not by design, not by a plan designed by the Uganda Tourism Board, or any other official Ugandan Agency. One has to applaud the Uganda Wildlife Authority for not raising Permit Prices when Rwanda raised theirs.
That Decision by the Uganda Wildlife Authority made Uganda in Africa’s Premier Primate Destination overnight. Follow the money, in this case, the Moneytrail, permits were 900 UD less in Uganda. One could save a thousand dollars and more on a Gorilla Safari in Uganda. One could fly into Rwanda and Trek Gorillas in Uganda, just 3 to 4-hours from Kigali. The extra time on a scenic drive through Rwanda and in Uganda was well worth it for many.
Today, Uganda has Quietly become the T.J.Maxx Gorilla Trekking Destination of Africa.
For those that do not know T.J.Maxx is a Brick and Mortar Chain of Department Stores that in a day when Department Stores are closing down their location, T.J.Maxx Sales are soaring both online and in its Stores. It sells the same the same quality Items that might be found in the exclusive Nordstrom Stores for less and like Uganda sells its Gorilla Permits, for quite a bit less.
T.J.Maxx Clients are the well to do, Entertainers such as Britney Spears and others who are looking for value at an affordable price (Even Prince Harry shops at T.K.Maxx in the UK). Travel Armchair Critics will feed you the line that Gorilla Trekking in Uganda is not as good as in Rwanda. That line obviously debunked in the Summer of 2018 when it seemed we were not a normal Tour Operator but the rush for permits reminded one to the day after Thanksgiving sales at Macy’s in the US where everyone is clamoring for a Bargain.
Uganda – decided to keep Gorilla Permits at 600 USD. The 600 USD Permit price is supporting the ongoing conservation efforts of a thriving Mountain Gorilla Population in Mgahinga Gorilla Park and in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The Local Communities will be reaping record benefits in 2018.
But Gorilla Trekking is much Better in Rwanda than it is Uganda:
That is one of those myths created by Armchair Critics who have never set foot on a Gorilla Trek in either Bwindi Impenetrable Forest or Mgahinga Gorilla Park. Ask in 2018 where Rwandan Gorilla Tour Operators are taking their clients. The answer invariably will be Uganda. Rwandan Tour operators complain that Rwanda\s doubling Permit prices has cost them up to 60% of their business in Rwanda.
Uganda, unlike Rwanda, gives you a choice of Trekking in the Virunga Volcanoes and in the UNESCO World Heritage Site Bwindi Impenetrable Forest which is just over an hour’s drive apart from each other. Uganda gives you the further choice of spending 4-hours with a Gorilla Habituation Experience for the same price as a normal permit in Rwanda. If you like to compare Gorilla Trekking in Uganda with Rwanda, see our page that will give you the Pros and Cons that we have found.
Rwanda, though when it comes to marketing outshines most African Countries. its recent deal with the Arsenal Premier League Football team is a case in point and you will be seeing every player on the Pitch having Visit Rwanda on their shirts. Already Rwanda is claiming an increase in visitors from the UK, but that marketing strategy which cost millions is paid for by Tourists who pay an inflated price for trekking in Rwanda. Add to that the movie Gorillas in the Mist and Ellen Degeneres promoting Uganda Gorilla Tourism on her show especially after her recent visit there.
But Rwanda Discounts Gorilla Permits by 30% in November through May- Uganda Does Not:
The Rwanda Discounted Gorilla Permits reduce the cost by 30% from 1,500 USD to 1,050 USD from November through May. Read the fine print, there are the added hooks that will make your gorilla Trek actually more expensive.
In order to qualify for the Discount in Rwanda, you have to stay in the country for 3 days, 72 hours and visit one additional Park such as Akagera which is Rwanda’s excellent Savannah Park and or Nyungwe Forest National Park which is amazing montane Forest. This adds extra Lodging, Park Entrance and Activity Fees and Transport Costs to the discounted price of Gorilla Trekking which is still 450 USD above Uganda’s 600 USD Permit.
Those coming Gorilla Trekking quickly figure out that the Discount is no Bargain and Rwandan Tour Operators concur, one stating that the discount program has not resulted in an increase in his business. as pointed out in the July 30-2018 East African Newspaper Article.
And yet – The Great Gorilla Trekking Migration to Uganda continues
Africa is home to some of the great Wildlife Migrations known to man. the one that stands out is the Wildebeest Migration that can be seen in the Masai Mara and Serengeti, there is also the Annual Tiang and the White-Eared Kob Antelope Migration in unfortunately conflict-ridden South Sudan.
Since May of 2017, there has been the great Gorilla Trekker Migration from Rwanda to equally safe Uganda’s Mgahinga Gorilla Park or Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. A mere 3 hours or 4 hours from Kigali where Trekkers can do a 3 Gorilla Trekking Safari at half the price of what it would cost them in Rwanda even during the Discount season of November through May of the Year.
Kigali International Airport is not only the gateway into Rwanda but also to Southwest Uganda where Mgahinga Gorilla Park and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest are located.
Fly into Rwanda and Trek in Uganda is what over 89% of our clients choose to do due to the convenience and amount it takes UgadasGorilla Destinations.
