Safe Visits, safe safaris are the norm in Uganda and not the exception. Despite that reality, there is the misconception that Uganda, like most of Africa, is a dangerous place.

Nothing could be further from the Truth and the Reality in Uganda. 99% of the visitors never incur any problems visiting the country. Especially those on a Safari with a tour operator.

That is reflected in actions that the Uganda Wildlife Authority, the Ugandan Military, and Police, including Tourism Police has and is taking. In 2021 the safest place to be in Uganda is on a Safari in one of the ten National Parks.

Uganda, with Security at an unprecedented level, is safer than it has ever been. Uganda’s Parks are safer in 2021 than they ever have been before with the increased security measures that have been taken.

Please Note:  The Covid-19 Pandemic has delayed travel bans for many due to prohibitions and restrictions that are still in place. Booking a safe and sane Safari for 2020 looks iffy. 2021, seems to be the right choice for most. It is something we highly recommend to our Clients.

How to Stay Safe on a Safari in Uganda  

1. 5.  Avoid any night travel outside of Entebbe-Kampala.  With us, Late Arrivals at Entebbe International – stay in Entebbe for the night.

6. We use only mid-range and upmarket Lodges and Hotels with onsite Security

7.  Use a Mobile Phone with Skype and or WhatsApp on it – most hotels and lodges have WiFi.

8. Do not arrange your own Safari by attempting to book lodges, a vehicle, permits.  It is not a vacation in Europe where you can easily do that.  We know Uganda, we live and work here, we know how to cut through the confusion and create a logical, sensible safari for you

9.  We suggest that without being Paranoid – stay aware. That is what the U.S. State Department suggests U.S. Citizens traveling to Uganda do.

The National Parks and Wildlife Reserve are under the jurisdiction of Uganda Wildlife Authority, and parks are well regulated, and the rules are strictly enforced.  Besides the rules that Uganda Wildlife Authority has, we have added some of our own that will keep you safe and secure on your Safari in Uganda.

Armed Rangers are there for your protection, and that includes protection from attacks by animals, you are in the Wild and not in a zoo.

  1. No movement on foot without an armed Ranger escort-outside of park stay with your driver-guide, this includes Gorilla, Chimpanzee, Golden Monkey Treks, Volcano Climbs, etc.
  2. No Driving in parks from 7:30 pm until 6:30 am.
  3. No wandering away from your Lodge. There are wild animals, plus it avoids contacting poachers.
  4. No Game Drives without an armed ranger on board vehicle

  6. Boat Safaris, we encourage the use of a life vest.
  7. On a Family, Safari never let children be unattended.
  8. Dress for the occasion – gorilla, chimpanzee trek, hike, volcano climb – follow our suggestion, they are for your well-being.
  9. Use a porter whenever available such as for Gorilla Trekking.
  10. Do not wear Camouflage clothing – it gets you unnecessary attention and is not suggested.
  11. Sitting on the roof of a vehicle is not allowed since the Uganda Wildlife Authority deems it as dangerous.
  12. Nocturnal Game Drives are only conducted with Uganda Wildlife Vehicles except where a lodge is authorized by UWA to do so.
