This 8-Day Luxury Fly-In -Drive-Gorilla-Chimpanzee Trekking-Wildlife Safari is a Luxury Flying & Driving Safari  that takes in Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – Queen Elizabeth Park Wildlife and Kibale Forest Chimpanzee Trekking.

Fly to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to begin your safari and fly back to Entebbe after Kibale Forest.  Minimal Drive Times – maximizing your Primate and Wildlife experience in Uganda without Long Drive-Times.

The longest Drive Time between Parks and Lodges on this Safari is 2 1/2 hours.

Arrival and Departure Lodging prior to the Safari and at the end of the Safari can easily be added on for your convenience.


 Day 1 – Fly to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest:

The 8-Day Luxury Fly-In -Drive-Gorilla-Chimpanzee Trekking-Wildlife Safari.  Be met by our Driver Guide and leave your Hotel in Entebbe or Kampala for Entebbe from where you fly at 7:45 via Aerolink to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – Kihihi Airstrip 1 hour from the Buhoma area of the park

Upon landing you are greeted by our Tour  Guide who will transport you to the upmarket lodge you have chosen.

Lunch

Afternoon Activity Choices:  In the Buhoma area there is  Guided Village Walk which can be on foot or with a mountain Bike – in both cases it is a guided tour introducing you to local village life. See crafts being made, meet a traditional healer,  learn how local beer and Waragi (Gin) is made Ugandan style, traditional gardening, and preparation of meals, a school visit and a dance by the original people of the forest – the Batwa People.  Other choices include a Mountain Bike Ride through the Forest with a guide, Hiking a trail such as a waterfall trail, birding, a visit to Bwindi Hospital – one of the best rural Hospitals in Uganda – in large part because of Gorilla Tourism. There is also the Batwa Experience – a hike into the Forest with the First People of the Forest, the Batwa People.

Day 2 Gorilla Trekking in the Buhoma Area:

Early Morning Breakfast – Pick up your packed lunch and this is what you will need for gorilla trek  today.  A day-pack, 2 liters of bottled water, some snacks such as dried fruits ( dried pineapple is readily available as are peanuts).  Wear Jeans, long-sleeved shirt, light hiking boots that are well-worn in and have good ankle support, hat – wide-brimmed preferred, socks to protect your ankles, light rain jacket or poncho, gardening gloves to pull yourself up on branches.  Porter services, walking sticks, and bottled water are provided for you.

You are off on your gorilla trek – we will help you pick a gorilla group that suits your physical fitness level.  The average tracking of the gorillas is about 5 hours in length and you are able to spend one hour with a gorilla family.

Note: A second Gorilla Trek can be added by adding a day to this safari.

 Day 3 Ishasha – Tree Climbing Lions:

Breakfast and we drive to Ishasha Wilderness Camp, an exclusive Wilderness Tented Camp in Ishasha along the Ntungwe River. (1 1/2 hour drive).

Check into your tent and become familiarized with the area you are staying in.  This is Tree-Climbing Lion Country and other wildlife.

Lunch along the Ntungwe River where you can see the elephants and other wildlife come to water and bathe.

Afternoon Game Drive in search of Tree-Climbing Lions and other wildlife which Uganda Kob and Topi Antelopes, Elephants, Buffaloes, at times Leopards who are often in a tree, warthogs and more,

Option:  Sundowner Drinks and Snacks on the Savannah which is a most unusual, one of a kind experience only found at Ishasha Wilderness Tented Camp. There is an added cost.

Ishasha Wilderness camp is an experience in the African Wild in the unvisited part of Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda – the Ishasha region of the park

Simply a place in the African Bush along the Ntungwe River- up-market luxury staying in en-suite Tented Cottages

Have lunch with elephants and hippos, listen to the sounds of the African night.

There is restaurant quality food and care offered in an upmarket style that with the new tents is simply great and you are near the best place in all of Africa for Tree Climbing Lions and yet most tourists bypass this fantastic part of Queen Elizabeth Park.

Day – 4 – Queen Elizabeth Park – Mweya Area:

Breakfast and your last Game Drive in search of the Tree Climbing Lions once again and seeing the abundance of wildlife found here.

We drive to the Mweya area where you check into the lodge you have chosen and have Lunch.

3 pm Boat Safari with Mweya Lodge Boat:  This is a smaller boat and for most a better experience than the UWA  larger Boat.  A private Boat Safari can be arranged for you upon requests.

The Afternoon Boat Safari on Kazinga Channel with its large hippo population, crocodiles, monitor lizards, elephant herds, buffaloes, antelopes, water birds including large groups of Pelicans.

The Boat Safari is one of the highlights to any Queen Elizabeth Park Visit.  For most, the two-hour boat-ride on this natural channel ends too soon

After the boat-safari, we take the scenic Explosion Crater Drive which is the highest point in Queen Elizabeth Park with 12 explosion craters – some of which are lakes, others covered by Savannah, Forests, and wildlife such as elephants and buffaloes can be seen here.  Views of Lake Edward, Lake George, the Western Rift Escarpment, the Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon, a Photographer’s Paradise.  Lighting for picture taking will be just right.

Mweya Area Lodges to Choose From


 Kyambura Gorge Lodge – Exclusive Luxury Lodge $$$$

This classy lodge is located near the Kyambura Gorge which is a giant gash in the Savannah of Queen Elizabeth Park.  The lodge was created by taking an old coffee shop and giving it a new life as an exclusive luxury Lodge.

Today it is one of the finest lodges in Uganda, but still has that rustic look to it. Exquisite Bandas as the cottages are called here.  There is a swimming pool at the main lodge where you take a drink and hear the stories about today’s Safari adventures that various guests had.

Excellent service is a trademark of the Volcanoes Lodges and certainly true at Kyambura Gorge.

Trek in the Gorge and spot a Chimpanzee in the valley of the Apes, Game drives and the boat safari on Kazinga Channel.


Day 5- Queen Elizabeth Park – northern Area:

 Breakfast

Lion Tracking Research – here you are with Researchers from the Carnivore Project and track the Collared Lions, leopards in this part of the park, not only will you see lions, but a learning experience about the lions.

The lion tracking research begins at the crack of dawn and you can have breakfast after the experience.

Lunch

Afternoon Game drive.  Game drives are always with a Uganda Wildlife Ranger on board. A game drive is about 3 hours in length.

In this area of Queen Elizabeth Park, you will see lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, vast herds of antelopes, Bush Pigs, forest hogs.

Day 6-Queen Elizabeth Park – Kibale Forest:

Breakfast and it is time to descend into what BBC has called the Lost Valley also called the Valley of the Apes, we call it a giant gash in the Savannah, the Kyambura Gorge with its underground forest, the legendary River of Blind, home to chimpanzees and other primates, birds and small mammals.

This is a 3 1/2 hour guided hike that even if you spot no chimpanzees is worth the effort since what awaits, the natural wonders alone make it worth it.  No one has ever complained that their time here was not adventurous.

Lunch at your lodge

We drive two hours to Kibale Forest where you check into your lodge for the afternoon. Enjoy a time along with a crater lake with Uganda’s Drink of Choice – Waragi, best enjoyed with a Krest Bitter Lemon Soda.

 Crater Lake Safari Lodge – Luxury – $$$:

Crater Lake Safari is when it comes to Luxury lodges is an affordable option for those that want that added comfort, extra service, and delightful meals.

There is a swimming pool for you to enjoy as well as a massage.  The Crater Lake itself is an attraction and the lodge has provided a beautiful gazebo where you can have a cool drink after a day of Chimpanzee Trekking.

The lodge has been featured in various international publications including Vogue Magazine as one of the best lodges in Uganda.

Enjoy the view from your most comfortable and Luxurious Cottage, the crater lake just below you, the rolling hillsides in the distance and the color green everywhere. Kibale Forest and Bigodi Wetlands are 20 minutes from the lodge.

 Papaya Lake Lodge – Luxury – $$$:

This classy luxury lodge comes with all the extras that one might expect from an exclusive lodge.  There is a sense of Afro-Euro fusion throughout including the meals served, original art, handcrafted furniture by the owner of the lodge.

You overlook one crater lake from your luxurious cottage and are near another.  Each cottage is in its own private setting perched above a crater lake.

The swimming pool is most attractive with a 360 panoramic view that includes the Rwenzori  Mountains of the Moon.

All in all, Papaya Lake Lodge is a place where memories are created.

The Meals served here receive praise from our Clients and are above the norm found at other lodges.


Day 7 – Chimpanzee Trekking – Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary:

Early Breakfast and we head for the Park Headquarters for your Chimpanzee Trekking Orientation before you head out for three to fours on the Chimpanzee Trek.  clothing for the day should be the same as in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. You should have a liter of water with you.

Long before you see the Chimpanzees, you will hear them.  You will be with them for one hour.  Unlike the Gorillas, they tend to move around a lot more and you will not remain in the same spot but move with them.

Lunch at the lodge

Afternoon – Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary Hike-8 3 pm.  This is a guided 3-hour hike through a Jungle Swamp, much of it is on planks that act like a boardwalk above the swamp.  Your experienced guide is from the local community that has maintained the Wetlands for many years with thousands visiting each year.

During the Afternoon you might spot Chimpanzees, Colobus Monkeys, also baboons.  The area is well-known for birds, the chief attraction is the Blue Turaco.

When it comes to Mammals you can see otters, bush pigs, mongoose, and the rare Sitatunga Antelope to name a few.)

Day 8 – Return Flight to Entebbe:

Breakfast and we take the journey to Kasese for your flight to Entebbe.

You will be met by our driver-guide there and taken to your hotel or we will assist you with transfers to your flight back to your home country or to another destination.

 Suggestions from  us:

Extend your Safari a few days by adding n off-the beaten-Track Rwenzori Bwamba Pass mini-Hike this gets you up to 3000 meters as you pass through remote Mountain Village.  This trail is still actively used by Villagers.

The Starting point is near Fort Portal and that evening you spend the next day in the exclusive Semliki Lodge.  There you can explore the jungle along the Semliki River, some of the best birding in Uganda including sightings of the elusive Shoebill Stork in swamps along Lake Albert.
