This 8-Day Fly-In -Drive – Gorilla-Chimpanze e Trekking – Wildlife Safari is a Luxury Flying & Driving Safari that takes in Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – Queen Elizabeth Park Wildlife and Kibale Forest Chimpanzee Trekking.

Stay at great lodges such as Buhoma Lodge, the exclusive Ishasha Wilderness Tented Camp, Kasenyi Safari Camp, Primate Lodge in Kibale Forest.

Fly to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest to begin your safari and fly out of Kasese back to Entebbe after Kibale Forest.  Minimal Drive Times – maximizing your primate and Wildlife experience in Uganda.

Day 1 – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest:

 The 8-Day Fly-In -Drive – Gorilla-Chimpanzee Trekking – Wildlife Safari begins.  Be met by our Driver Guide and leave your Hotel in Entebbe or Kampala for Entebbe from where you fly via Aerolink to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – Kihihi Airstrip or to the Southern portion of Bwindi Forest where you land in Kisoro.

Upon landing you are greeted by our Tour  Guide who will transport you to the upmarket lodge you have chosen.


Afternoon Activity Choices:  In the Buhoma area there is  Guided Village Walk which can be on foot or with a mountain Bike – in both cases it is a guided tour introducing you to local village life. See crafts being made, meet a traditional healer,  learn how local beer and Waragi (Gin) is made Ugandan style, traditional gardening and preparation of meals, a school visit and a dance by the original people of the forest – the Batwa People.  Other choices include a Mountain Bike Ride through the Forest with a guide, Hiking a trail such as a waterfall trail, birding, a visit to Bwindi Hospital – one of the best rural Hospitals in Uganda – in large part because of Gorilla Tourism.

In the Southern Region – Afternoon activities depend on which lodge you have chosen in the area.   You can visit the Batwa Pygmy people, You can also visit a village and take a guided village walk where you learn the local culture and ways, a hike on top of a hill where you have an unimpeded look into the Congo, birding, various hikes.

Day 2 Gorilla Trekking:

Early Morning Breakfast – Pick up your packed lunch and this is what you will need for gorilla trek  today.  A day-pack, 2 liters of bottled water, some snacks such as dried fruits ( dried pineapple is readily available as re nuts).  Wear Jeans, long-sleeved shirt, light hiking boots that are well-worn in and have good ankle support, hat – wide-brimmed preferred, socks to protect your ankles, light rain jacket or poncho, gardening gloves to pull yourself up on branches. Purchase a walking stick for support – or use one from the lodge.  Porter service is provided for you – the latter assists a local family.

You are off on your gorilla trek – we will help you pick a gorilla group that suits your physical fitness level.  The average tracking of gorilla is about 5 hours in length and you are able to spend one hour with a gorilla family.

Note: A second Gorilla Trek can be added on by adding a day, You can also a  hike through Bwindi Impenetrable from the South – Nkuringo where you track gorillas, then hike through the forest to Buhoma where you track gorillas again the following day.  This Hike can be reversed.


Other Option: Gorilla Habituation Experience – all day in the forest on a trek and  4 hours with a Gorilla Group.  Over 40% of our Gorilla trekking clients take advantage of this option – Permits are 1500 USD.

Day 3 Ishasha – Tree Climbing Lions:

Breakfast and we drive to Ishasha Wilderness Camp, an exclusive Wilderness Tented Camp in Ishasha along the Ntungwe River. (1 1/2 hour drive).

Check into your tent and become familiarized with the area you are staying in.  This is Tree-Climbing Lion Country and other wildlife.

Lunch along the Ntungwe River where you can see the elephants and other wildlife come to water and bathe.

Afternoon Game Drive in search of Tree-Climbing Lions and other wildlife which Uganda Kob and Topi Antelopes, Elephants, Buffaloes, at times Leopards who are often in a tree, warthogs and more,

Sundowner Drinks and Snacks on the Savannh which is a most unusual, one of a kind experience only found at Ishasha Wilderness Tented Camp.


Lodging: Ishasha Wilderness Camp    There is only one upmarket lodge to choose from and it is the one listed.

Day 4 – Queen Elizabeth Park:

Bush Breakfast is something you will just love, it is more than a meal – it is an experience with a meal in  the Bush.

Game Drive in search of the Tree Climbing Lions once again and seeing the abundance of wildlife found here.

We continue the 2 hour drive as we transfer to the Mweya area of the park, before checking in at Kasenyi Safari Camp we take the most scenic Explosion Crater Drive which is the highest point in Queen Elizabeth Park with 12 explosion craters – some of which are lakes, others covered by Savannah, Forests and wildlife such as elephants and buffaloes can be seen here.  Views of Lake Edward, Lake George, the Western Rift Escarpment, the Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon, a Photographer’s Paradise.

We check into Kasenyi Safari Camp – upmarket Tented Camp.  A small tented camp overlooking a crater lake and the Kasenyi Plains.  There are only 4 spacious, luxurious tented cottages with bath.  The main lodge where you eat also offers great views and frequent visitors include wildlife such as lions, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, warthogs and more.

The food is excellent here, non-premium drinks are included in the price of lodging which is an added plus for the lodge.


Afternoon Game drive across the savannah studded with many Candelabras Euphoria Trees and often a lion may be resting in one during the day.  Here you will see Lions, Elephants, Antelopes of various kinds, Buffaloes, Warthogs, Bushpigs, Forest Hogs (rarely) and Savannah Birds.

Day 5:

Breakfast (option here in the Mweya Area is a Hot Air Balloon Ride over the savannah and the wildlife  below.  This means an early start since early morning is best for Hot Air Balloon Rides.  At the conclusion of the Hot Air Balloon Safari  you can enjoy a Bush Breakfast prepared by Mweya Safari Lodge Chefs.  Another Delight in the African Bush.

If you do not take the Hot Air Balloon Safari – a morning game drive will take place – this can be done beginning at 6:30 am when dawn breaks either before or after Breakfast.  Another option is the Lion Tracking Research Project.

Afternoon Boat Safari on Kazinga Channel with its large hippo population, crocodiles, monitor lizards, elephant herds, buffaloes, antelopes, water birds.

Day 6 – Kibale Forest:

Breakfast and we take the two-hour journey to Kibale Forest which is the best park in all of East Africa for Chimpanzee Tracking with almost 1400 Chimpanzees and 12 other primate species, 5 or 6 you will most often see when you go on a Chimpanzee Trek or all-day Chimpanzee Habituation Experience.

We check into Primate Lodge which is within Kibale Forest and a short distance to park headquarters. This is an upmarket tented camp and the reason we choose it is because of its convenient location.

Afternoon excursion to Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary, a fancy name for a Jungle Swamp which it is and a most fascinating one at that.

Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary is home to the Large Blue Turaco, Primates such as gray cheeked Mangabeys, Colobus Monkeys, even Chimpanzees foraging for food in the afternoon.  You might also spot the elusive semi-aquatic Sitatunga Antelope.  Most of the walk is on planked walkways that have been created through the swamp.

Day 7 – Chimpanzee Habituation Experience:

Early Breakfast and we head for the Park Headquarter where you will be assigned your guide for the day  as you head off for the Chimpanzee Habituation Experience, which means that you will be with a group of chimpanzees that is being habituated by researchers and others, a process that lasts up to two years.

You will be able to see the life of the forest which has jungle like qualities to it since it is where the West African Jungle meets East Africa.

Clothing for the day should be the same as in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. You might need three liters of water since it is all day.  Of course you will be provided with a packed lunch.

Day 8 – Return to Kampala – Entebbe:

Breakfast and we take the journey to Kasese for your flight to Entebbe.

You will be met by our driver-guide there and taken to your hotel or he will assist you with transfers to your flight back to your home country.
