A 5 Day Kidepo Valley Park- in search of the real Lion King Safari – hopefully you will see Spartacus – King of the Valley


The Lion movie – captured the hearts of millions around – unfortunately Mufasa is a product of Disney Studio’s imagination. Wildlife Photographer William Burrard-Lucas visited Uganda’s remote and unvisited Kidepo Valley National Park and came across the King of the Valley – “Spartacus” who reenacted scenes from “The Lion King.”

This 5 Day Kidepo Valley Park- in search of the real Lion King Safari takes in a park where the Lion Population is freely growing, increasi ng in numbers and the King of the Valley is Spartacus who you will hopefully find on the same Kopje (small hill) that Wildlife Photographer William Burrard-Lucas did. Be sure to have your camera ready as you spot him with your Ranger-Guide.

This 5 Day Kidepo Valley Park- in search of the real Lion King Safari to Africa as it was 50 – 100 years – CNN has twice featured the park, once as the 3rd best Park in Africa and another time as one of Africa’s Featured Parks.

Kidepo Valley Park, is authentic Africa, an African Wilderness that you will not find elsewhere in East Africa.  It is Africa without the crowds, where you have less than 10 new visitors a day enter the park, with limited lodges made up by the richness of the Africa Wilderness in this remote part of Uganda.

Day 1: Drive from Kampala or Entebbe to Kitgum
Your 5 Day Kidepo Valley Park Wildlife Safari begins. Depart your hotel or lodge at 6:30 am and we head north to Kitgum where we have lunch before continuing to Kitgum and check into the moderately priced Fugly’s Hotel with a small swimming pool, cold drinks, good food and rooms with bath.

Meal Plan:  Lunch – Dinner

Day 2: Kidepo Valley National Park

Breakfast at Fugly’s and we drive on to Kidepo Valley Park passing first through Acholi Villages and then the Manyattas of the Karamajong People.

We reach Kidepo Valley Park and check into Nga’Moru moderately priced lodge owned by Fugly’s Hotel in Kitgum.  Tented cottages with bath – great views of the park and wildlife visiting the lodge  area.

Afternoon Game Drive where we will hopefully see Lions, Leopards, Cheetahs, vast herds of buffaloes, antelopes, elephants – all the while around you is fascinating scenery of the Kidepo Valley Park Wilderness.

Lodging: Nga’ Moru Wilderness Camp – Moderately Priced – Budget – Apoka UWA Bandas – Upmarket – Apoka Safari Lodge

Note:  when you stay at the Budget Apoka Bandas we have to arrange food being brought in and hire a cook there. The rooms are clean and comfortable.

Day3:  Kidepo Valley National Park
Breakfast and depart for the day with a packed lunch beginning with a morning game drive near the Hot-Springs where we most likely will see Ostriches, Leopards, Tortoises, Antelope (The Roan Antelope is found here) and other wildlife.

After packed lunch is a guided nature walk through the park which often proves to be a highlight  of a Safari in Kidepo Valley Park.

Meal Plan:  Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner

Day 4: Kidepo Valley Park – KitgumBreakfast and we visit Karamojong Manyatta with guide, meeting the Cattle Herders – Warrior and get to understand their culture and ways.

Afterwards we drive to Kitgum staying overnight at Fugly’s Hotel

Meal Plan:  Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner

Day 5: Return to Kampala Entebbe
Depart early after Breakfast for Kampala or Entebbe with Lunch along the way

Meal Plan:  Breakfast – Lunch

Includes; pick up from kampala and back, transport in 4×4 safari vehicle with pop up adapted for game viewing, game drive, hot springs, accommodation in double/ twin room for selected hotel, meals attached to the room, park entrance fees..

Excludes; Visa and international flights fees, meals and drinks that are not attached to the rooms, extra activities, expenses of personal nature, staff tips, medical and travel insurance..

Safari includes all activities listed – except those that need to be chosen, includes full board lodging, bottled water, transportation – does include tips, alcohol, soft drinks at lodges, neither visa.

You can come too Kidepo Valley Park any time of the year.  The dry seasons being the best, however the rainy seasons bring out a whole new dimension in Kidepo Valley Park that are sights to behold and worth the effort of getting here.
