Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary is the perfect place for Birders and you will see many species here including the large Blue Turaco, Brown Parrots and many others. Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary is also home to many primates including Chimpanzees who come here looking for food, black and white Colobus, gray Cheeked Mangabeys, red tailed Monkeys and many others are found here. The Sitatunga semi-aquatic Antelopes are also found her and often can be seen even though they are quite shy.

This is about a 3 hour hike and nature walk for birders, those that love nature and different settings, primate lovers, love butterflies and simply the feeling of walking through the jungle.

Day 2 – Chimpanzee Trekking – Kibale Forest:

Chimpanzee Trekking  is a guided trek at least 5 or six different types of primates. Then there is the forest itself with its beauty and ruggedness. There are over 200 Butterfly Species and 350 Bird Species found here.

Kibale Forest is home to about 1500 Chimpanzees and is the best Place in East-Africa for Chimpanzee Tracking.   Chimpanzee Treks here have an over 95% success rate for seeing chimpanzees

Things to wear and Bring: A light day-pack, a liter of water, wear jeans, long-sleeved shirt for protection, a hat is good, light hiking boots and a light rain-jacket.

The chimpanzees you will encounter are habituated meaning that they are used to human beings. Not all chimpanzees in the park are habituated. The process takes up to two years.

Option:  Instead of Chimpanzee tracking which is over 3 hours in length you can partake in an all day Chimpanzee Habituation Experience that most find quite informative, enjoyable and you are in Kibale Forest from morning to late afternoon with researchers and trackers.

Afternoon – Top of the world hike as you go on a three-hour nature walk – hike that is guided through villages, tea plantations and you view three crater lakes as you head for the what is called locally the Top of the World from where you have a fantastic view of the crater lakes and countryside below you, the Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon and tomorrow’s destination – Queen Elizabeth National Park.

Other Queen Elizabeth Park Lodging Choices

Day 4 – Queen Elizabeth Park:

Breakfast before or after game drive  – you can begin your first game drive at the crack of dawn which is about 6:30 am here – that is also the time you can pick up a Uganda Wildlife Authority Ranger to go with us. Mornings are also a time where you see more of the predators return from their night of prowling and there is nothing like a Savanna Sunrise .

each game drive is about 2 1/2 to 3 hours in length and one is different from the last. Nothing is predictable but that most likely you will enjoy yourself as nature unfolds itself as you slowly drive across the savanna.

3 pm: A Boat Safari ride on Kazinga Channel with the highest concentration of hippos in Africa. At one time there were too many hippos and their grazing denuded the surrounding grasslands. Before independence they would be culled by the wildlife authorities. The locals ate the meet and after Idi Amin came to power, poachers and soldiers, and again at the fall of Idi Amin, many hippos were shot by locals, rebels and soldiers.

There are also crocodiles (crocodiles had been absent for a few thousand years but started to show up in the 1950’s and have increased in numbers), countless of birds on the shore and overhead and in the water of the channel. This is a pleasant boat ride where you can get some great pictures of elephants, antelopes, predators in late afternoon and buffaloes on shore. Hopefully you will get an open-mouthed hippo shot with your camera.
