The best area in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for twice Gorilla Trekking has become the Southern area, and The reason is simple – The southern area of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest has the most habituated Gorilla Families.

Getting here has been made easier:  Fly into Kigali Rwanda, and it is a mere 4-hour drive time to Rushaga area of Bwindi Forest in the southern region of the park. Many of our Gorilla Tracking  Clients opt for the Gorilla Habituation Experience.

Day -1 -Getting to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest -Rushaga Area:

 Lake Mulehe Lodge

This is a great newer lodge combining a base for Gorilla Trekking in the Rushaga Area with the added plus of being along Lake Mulehe with the Virunga Volcanoes providing a beautiful backdrop.

Private, en-suite cottages, consistent customer service, meals prepared with an Italian touch.

Nearby Hiking Trails, Village Visit, Canoe Boat ride on the lake, it does not get any better.

We use Lake Mulehe Lodge because we do not receive complaints from clients.  The view is great, the lake is comforting, the cottages are clean and comfortable, and the meals are tasty and throughout there is good service given to guests.  There is also road accessibility to Rwanda which is excellent the Bwindi Jungle Lodge location

Day -2 – 1st Gorilla Trek in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest:

It means an early breakfast and be at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park Headquarters – Rushaga for the Mountain Gorilla Tracking (Trekking) orientation and meeting with guides and separation into groups depending on which group you will be tracking.

Things needed for Gorilla Trek Light hiking boots, light rain jacket, day pack, 2 liters of water, some like to have sturdy gardening gloves made of cotton to pull themselves up on vines and branches, long-trousers such as jeans, long-sleeved shirt to protect skin from getting scratched, hat – wide brimmed is best, sunglasses, insect repellent mostly against flies.

Then it is off to your Gorillas in the Mist experience. You are hiking through this mysterious and magnificent forest where there is much else to see on your way to your Mountain Gorilla Group.  The flora and fauna, other primates, mammals, birds, butterflies will be most beautiful and only enhance this extraordinary day.

The tracking (trekking) can involve some rigorous climbing and hiking, but then you are face to face with these powerful yet gentle Mountain Gorillas, observing them just a few meters from you watching the group, mothers with a baby, the gorillas doing their daily routine and you are there. (There are easy treks for some gorilla families)

Afterward, it is a return to the park headquarters depending on time and your energy level you can take a dugout excursion on Lake Mulehe before dinner.
