On this Gorilla Habituation Experience Safari, you save 6 hours drive time by flying in and out of Kigali for this moderately priced Safari with Gorilla Habituation which is not available in Rwanda or the Congo but only in Uganda in the Rushaga region of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Day 1 – Drive to Rushaga – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda:

Your 3 Day Gorilla Habituation Experience Safari begins as we leave your hotel in Kigali at 7 am or the Kigali Airport for your moderately priced Safari. The drive time to Rushaga is about 4 hours plus depending on Border  Crossing – Visa for Uganda is 50 USD.  You can also get an East African Visa from Rwanda which allows you to re-enter Rwanda.

Normally the border crossing is about 30 minutes and you are in Uganda heading for the ancient Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.  The Route you are on from Kigali to Bwindi is one of the most scenic drives in East Africa.

Lunch

Buniga Forest Walk with the Batwa People:  Learn the ancient ways of the Batwa Pygmies, the first people of the Forest who have lived here for thousands of years leaving a low ecological footprint.  They were hunters and gatherers and today you learn about their culture and ways.  The fees go to the Batwa People and their Village.  This is a 2 to 3-hour walk in an African Montane forest and can include a visit to their Village time permitting.

Note:  This Safari can be done from Entebbe but it is longer Drive-Times. Drive Times can be reduced by adding two days and making this a 5-Day or even 6 Day Safari.

 Bwindi Jungle Lodge on Lake Mulehe – mid-range-$$:

This is a great lodge with splendid views of the Virunga Volcanoes located on scenic Lake Mulehe.  The food is one of Italian – Ugandan Fusion, the service is excellent and the stone cottages are perfect for your stay while doing the Gorilla Habituation Experience in the Rushaga Area of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

You stay in a Stone Cottage, there is a great beach, you can paddle on the Lake in a dugout canoe, visit a nearby Village, birding, nature walks and more. The menu is one of Afro-Italian Fusion and your palate will be pleasantly surprised

This lodge gives you a lot of Value for your Dollar in terms of its setting, on the lake, quality of rooms and service.


 Gorilla Valley Lodge- mid-range $$:

Gorilla Valley Lodge is perfectly situated for Gorilla Tracking in the southern area of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and provides moderately priced quality lodging in the Southern Area of Bwindi Forest – Southern area.

Each room comes with a bath, quality beds.  There is great service and welcome you receive, excellent meals and a quiet lodge with a nice view of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

The lodge has become popular and at times we have to use an alternate similar priced lodge.

The lodge has become popular with guests because of what Gorilla Valley Lodge offers.


 Rushaga Gorilla Camp – Mid-Range $$:

This newer budget and moderately priced lodge opened up in 2015 and is the newcomer to the Rushaga area of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

The Rushaga area has the most habituated gorilla families but lacked lodging.  Rushaga Gorilla Camp has made getting a quality lodge a bit easier.

Rooms and tented cottages come with bath, tasty meals and cold drinks are served in the main lodge and the lodge is within walking distance to Park Headquarters.

For the Gorilla Habituation Experience, it is a 30-minute drive since a different trailhead is used.


 Day 2 – Gorilla Habituation Experience – Rushaga:

Early Breakfast and take your packed lunch from the lodge, have a daypack,  3 liters of water, daypack, long trousers, gardening gloves for pulling yourself up on branches, long-sleeved shirt. waterproof boots, hat, rain jacket, use a walking stick and the services of a porter at a small cost – let our Driver-Guide negotiate the price and arrange the porter for you.

Meet the researchers, trackers and guides and head for the location of your gorilla family group being habituated and your four hours in their presence and learning their ways.

With the trek in and trek out – the 4-hour Gorilla Habituation Experience – this is an all-day trek, not only do you see the Gorillas with only 4 participants, but you learn about the Gorillas habits and ways from the Gorillas and the Researchers.

Return to the trailhead and it is back to the lodge.

Day 3- Return to Kigali:

Golden Monkey Trekking:

We drive to Mgahinga Gorilla Park and meeting with Rangers for a Golden Monkey Orientation before you head up into the Bamboo Forest found in the Virunga Volcanoes, three of which are in Uganda.

The Beautiful Golden Monkeys weigh about 15 Kilos. and are quite active.  They will be moving all-around you,, overhead in the trees.  You have to take some quick pictures.

The trek lasts 3 hours and afterward, we depart for Kigali  Drive Time to Kigali is 3-hours plus, we do gain one hour crossing Time Zones at the border.

Drop off at airport 3 hours before your flight and the end of your moderately priced 3 Day Gorilla Habituation Experience.
