Kazinga Channel is not only the place for hippos in Africa – it is the place for birders as you will see by the hundreds and hundreds of birds on the shore, in the water and in the air. Birders can easily find over 40 species while on the boat safari on Kazinga Channel.
Hippos – Birds are plenty here but so are crocodiles, monitor lizards, elephant herds, buffaloes, antelopes and during the late afternoon you might see a predator coming to water before going on the night’s hunt.
After the boat safari on Kazinga channel we continue for a sunset, scenic explosion crater drive – this is a 27 kilometer journey and we do so with a knowledgeable Uganda Wildlife Authority Ranger.
The explosion Crater drive takes you to the highest and most scenic part of Queen Elizabeth National Park – there are about 12 explosion craters – some are lakes – others covered with savannah or forest. Wildlife here consists mostly of elephants, buffaloes and antelopes – we have taken you here for the scenic wonders.
You can clearly see the Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon, the escarpment of the Western Rift below you with views into the mountains of the Congo, Lake Edward, Lake George, Kazinga Channel and the vast savannah – all below you.
