Day 1- Arrival in Uganda – Entebbe International  Airport – Stay at 2 Friends Beach Hotel:

Your 14 – Day Romantic Honeymoon Safari – Uganda-Rwanda begins. Arrive at Entebbe airport – if you are coming from Europe – North America – most likely you will arrive at night after 10 pm.  If you come from the mid-east morning or afternoon, South Africa – early evening.

Day 2 – Depart for Safari – Kyaninga Lodge near Kibale Forest:

 Great first Breakfast in Africa and depart by 7:30 am for Kibale Forest – which is a scenic 5 hour drive from Entebbe – Arrive at Lunchtime at the exclusive Kyaninga Lodge. Log Cabin like structures overlooking a pristine Crater Lake, the Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon – the surrounding countryside.

There is a fabulous swimming pool for you to enjoy and take a refreshing dip.  You will also find the only lawn tennis court in Uganda. and a croquet playing garden, you can stroll through the gardens and even take a guided walk of the surrounding area.

Day 3 – Kibale Forest Chimp Habituation Experience – all day:

A very early breakfast – take a packed lunch from the lodge – a day-pack that is rain-proof (just in case) to protect  your belongings – 2 to 3 liters of water, snacks such as granola bars, camera equipment and anything else you would like.

Wear long- trousers, long-sleeved shirt, also wear a wide-brimmed hat, hiking boots with a good grip and well-worn in, you will need a daypack for your lunch, snacks, water

The Chimpanzee habituation experience begins early in the morning at dawn and lasts all day until late afternoon.  You are with a guide, and in the company of researchers, trackers, rangers and others who habituate chimps that you will be seeing today.  (Drive time to park – 45 minutes)

This is a one of a kind, unique experience – you will be able to shoot some great pictures and take home some great memories of this most eventful day with the chimpanzees of Kibale Forest.

Day 4 – Transfer to Queen Elizabeth Park – Katara Lodge:

 Breakfast and we take the 2 1/2 hour drive to Queen Elizabeth Park.

Before Checking in at Katara Lodge we take one of the most scenic drives in Uganda – The Explosion Crater Drive 27 kilometer drive where you are at the highest point in Queen Elizabeth Park where you have views of the Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon, the escarpment of the Albertine Rift, the Savannah below and Lake Edward and Lake George.

There are 12 craters found on this drive, some are covered with water, others with savannah and or forests.  Simply beautiful scenes that you can capture with your camera.

Check into Katara Lodge – each cottage has a roll-out bed that you can use to sleep outside under the stars on your deck – a very different experience.  There is also a swimming pool for your enjoyment and a most splendid view of the savannah below.

Unique feature about Katara Lodge – they have an extra bed in each cottage that you can roll out onto the deck, it has a mosquito net covering and allows you to experience the African night sounds while on your deck

In the late afternoon we take a game drive with a Uganda Wildlife Authority Ranger on board. between your driver guide and the UWA ranger there is little that you will miss when it comes to birds, wildlife, and scenery before you.

Hopefully you will spot some lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes of various kind, warthogs, savannah birds and more.  Each game drive is about 3 hours in length and there is a pop-up roof that allows you to stand in the vehicle for best photographs while you are out on a game drive.

Day 5 – Queen Elizabeth Park:


Morning game drive – each game drive is a different experience for you to take in as you drive down a different game track – you might see the same animals again, however it is in a different setting that makes each wildlife game drive a delight.

Lions, Elephant herds, Cape Buffaloes, various antelopes including Uganda Kob, warthogs, bushpigs, leopards at times, savannah birds and other wildlife

The Queen Elizabeth National Park – Mweya area is one of the most popular wildlife areas in southwest Uganda and has much to offer as you are on a game drive and it is always a most interesting adventure.

Your Toyota Land-Cruiser is equipped with a pop-up roof so that you can stand and take better pictures.  You might want to use a Bean Bag to steady your camera.  A Uganda Wildlife Ranger will accompany you so that you do not miss any wildlife – both driver and ranger know the park and animals found here and will point them out to you.


Afternoon Boat Safari on Kazinga Channel which is a natural channel that connects Lake George and Lake Edward.  This is one of the highlights of your time in Queen Elizabeth Park.

The boat slowly moves along the shore toward Lake Edward and you are able to see many pods of hippos, crocodiles, hippos, monitor lizards, antelopes, elephant herds, buffaloes, hundreds of birds and at times in the late afternoon some predators come to water before the evening hunt.

The Boat Safari is one of the highlights of your time in Queen  Elizabeth, it is a unique experience since you see the animals rather up-close from the boat while animals are in the water or on the shore.  The boat safari is about two hours in length – after which you return to Katara Lodge for the sunset over the savannah.

Day 6 – Transfer to Ishasha Region of Queen Elizabeth Park – Ishasha Wilderness Tented Camp

 This morning we rise early for one of the most exciting adventures during your honeymoon safari in Africa.  A Hot Air Balloon ride over Queen Elizabeth Park and also the crater lakes.

This is an adventure but it is safe and sane with all safety-precautions being taken.  The Hot Air Balloon Safari must take place at the crack of dawn which is around 6:30 am in Queen Elizabeth Park.  The Hot Air Balloon is about 1 hour in length.  See the wildlife such as elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, lions from above. Some great photo opportunities await you on your hot air balloon safari.

At the end of the Balloon Safari a Bush Breakfast awaits you, another first on your African Honeymoon Safari.  This is a full breakfast with all the treats you would have in a lodge…enjoy…

After  Breakfast we proceed to to the Ishasha area (2 hour drive) of Queen Elizabeth Park -we check into the  exclusive Ishasha Wilderness Tented Camp  which is located along the Ntungwe River where you can sit, have lunch or  a drink and watch wildlife such  as elephants come to water and bathe in the river.

This is a luxury tented camp, private bath and most tents have a view of the River.  Simply a fantastic place to spend a day and night.

The tents are quite large and furnished to luxury standards including bathroom – a very comfortable place to stay and a far cry from tenting in some park back in your home country – this is an African Safari Luxury Tent  in the midst of the wilderness of Ishasha – Queen Elizabeth Park.

The Ishasha Sector of Queen Elizabeth is most enjoyable for those that stay and visit here and Ishasha Wilderness Tented Camp is the perfect place to stay in up-market comfort and style in the African Wild of Uganda – the food is excellent as is the service that awaits you here is no matter whether you are having breakfast, lunch or dinner

 Ishasha is the unvisited portion of Queen Elizabeth Park, it is however one of the most exciting areas in the park in that it is home to the Tree climbing lions and much other wildlife.


After lunch we take a game drive in search of the tree-climbing lions that the area is famous for.

The lions climb up into the trees and sleep the day away after the nights hunt, you may also spot a leopard up in a tree during this game drive.  Ishasha is the best area in East Africa for tree-climbing lions.  In Uganda you can find them in both Kidepo Valley Park and here in Ishasha.

There is much more to be seen here on the vast Savannah such as Elephant herds, buffaloes, antelopes including the larger Topi antelopes with their rich color

After the Game Drive it is time for Sundowners in the Bush – snacks and drinks – you can even have a Waragi and Tonic Water – Waragi is Uganda’s form of gin – most of it is made moonshine style.  Snacks are served along with the drinks and you can take in the Savannah with its wildlife before you.  This will be another highlight of your time on Safari in Africa….enjoy

Day 7 – Transfer to Buhoma Area of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest:

After breakfast another game drive to see the tree-climbing lions of Ishasha once again – each game drive is different – even if one looks for the same wildlife, there are always surprises and a variety of wildlife, birds to see.

Depart for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – Buhoma area (1 1/2 hour drive) – Buhoma Lodge is inside of the Park and you can walk over for your Gorilla Tracking Orientation tomorrow morning.

Buhoma Lodge has a solid reputation that has come from years of upmarket quality and service.  The rooms are individual cottages with bath, quite comfortable and perched on a hill overlooking Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. At times this and other lodges in the area have drop-in visitors – one of the Mountain Gorilla Families will pay a courtesy visit.

Food is excellent here and you will enjoy the upmarket service that you find at Buhoma Lodge

In the evening there is often a campfire for you to enjoy and at bedtime a hot water bottle is brought for your bed.


Something you may not know – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest was picked by Lonely Planet as one of the most unusual Honeymoon Spots in the World.

Day 8  – Gorilla Tracking – Buhoma – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest:

Breakfast at the Lodge – pick up your packed lunch and put two lifters of water into your daypack.  Camera  equipment, granola bars might come in handy.

Dress in long trousers, long-sleeved shirt – both for protection against nettles, branches, shrubs.  Some tuck their trousers or jeans into their socks to guard against soldier ants.  Light rain-jacket, hat with wide brim, sturdy gardening gloves to pull yourself on branches.

Porter to carry your belongings is provided for the trek.  This frees you to take pictures and assists a Ugandan family.

The gorilla trek is from 3 to 7 hours in length or longer – however that hour with the mountain gorillas is most rewarding and you will not forget it anytime soon.

If you return to the lodge early – you can take the guided Village Walk or simply relax and enjoy until dinner time.

Day 9-Hike to Nkuringo through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest:

Breakfast and a packed lunch, two to three liters of water, the same kind of clothing as for gorilla Tracking, a porter  to carry your pack, your walking stick in hand and you head south through the UNESCO World Heritage Site to Nkuringo.

Along the way you may encounter primates, many birds (this is the # 1 Birding Site in Africa), scenes that will delight you and mean some great photos for you.

The Hike through Bwindi takes about 7 hours, it is well worth it and another highlight of your Honeymoon in Africa.

There are many mammals found in the ancient forest including Chimpanzees, this being the only area where chimpanzees and Mountain Gorillas are found in the same forest, Forest Elephants are also found in the southern area of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

As you reach Nkuringo you will have views of the Virunga Volcanoes that are breathtaking to behold.

 In Nkuringo we check into the exclusive Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge which is a most wonderful experience.  The rooms consist of a suite with separate bedroom, an outside sitting area with views of Bwindi Forest and also the Volcanoes.

There is a Fireplace in the sitting area of the suite and you have 24 hour butler service for you – This is simply an amazing place and has been featured in Condé Nast Travel which highly recommended them as the lodge to stay in while in the Nkuringo area of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Your meals here are of restaurant quality plus and will delight you both for their taste and presentation.  During the evening there are often tribal dance presentations by the local community which will eventually take ownership of the lodge.

Day 10 – Gorilla Tracking in the Nkuringo Area

Early breakfast and off to Park Headquarters for your gorilla tracking orientation

This is a your second Gorilla Trek – the area is quite different from Buhoma area of the park.  You have the choice of tracking in Nkuringo which takes a bit more physical fitness (600 meters down and up at the beginning and end of trek).  Rushaga which is 20 minutes away is an easier place to track Mountain Gorillas.

A porter has been provided for each of you to – this is not demeaning to the porter, porters are able to support their families and make more money each year than a midlevel government official.

Each gorilla trek is led by capable Ranger Guides and Trackers – pre-trek trackers are out before the trek to locate your Gorilla Family since Gorillas like Chimpanzees move daily and build new nests.

The Trek time is between 3 to 5 hours and it can be plus and up to seven hours – that hour with the Mountain Gorillas make it well worth it.

Optional:  A Village walk through the local community can be taken after the Gorilla Trek.

Day 11 – Lake Kivu – Rwanda – Gisenyi – Lake Kivu Serena Hotel:

Breakfast at Clouds Mountain Gorilla Lodge and afterwards we cross into Rwanda toward one of the most scenic  Lakes in Africa – Lake Kivu and to the town of Gisenyi.

Gisenyi is the Costa del Sol of Rwanda with palm tree studded sandy beaches.  Please take a look at our Rwanda Visa Requirements and whether you have to obtain a visa online in your home country or if citizens of your country are excempt.

Border Crossings in East Africa are a unique adventure and the Rwandan Custom – Immigration will do a search for Plastic Bags – something common in the rest of Africa but forbidden in Rwanda.  Rwanda is one of the cleanest countries in Africa and on the 4th Saturday of the Month there is Umuganda Day – which is cleanup and repair day – one reason it is so clean.

Welcome to the Land of a Thousand Hills and the Eternal Spring in the heart of Africa, you will be taken back by the beauty of the countryside as we drive toward Lake Kivu – 4 hour drive – depending on border crossing.

Relax and chill out along the shores of Lake Kivu.  You can swim in the lake (no bilharzia, no hippos, no crocodiles), or you can swim in the pool.

There is a poolside restaurant and bar where you can get some snack if you so choose.  Try the lake sardines call Sambaza which are a traditional dish around the Lake and during your stay you may hear the fishermen going out or coming back from fishing singing traditional songs – one thing you will notice as to how unique the fishing boats are that fish for sardines.  Another snack you may enjoy during your stay is the national dish of Rwanda – Goat Brochettes, you can also order fish, chicken, beef, vegetable brochettes.

There are many activities that the Serena Hotel at Lake Kivu offers such as swimming, boating, wind-surfing, even fishing or just relaxing after two gorilla treks and the hike through Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Day 12 – Lake Kivu – Gisenyi:

 Breakfast and you will find great selections offered here including an abundance of Rwandan Fruit.  One of the things that you will notice is the great coffee.  Rwandan coffee is some of the best in Africa – its Bourbon Coffee is considered #2 in the world and you can find it in places such as Costco and Starbucks.  One Rwandan Coffee Shop – Bourbon Coffee has gone International and you can find it various American Cities including New York and Washington DC.

This Morning we take the Crop to Cup Coffee Tour where you can see firsthand how coffee is produced in Rwanda.  It begins with a boat ride to a nearby Island where the coffee is grown, from there it is to the washing, sorting and drying station.  Finally the roasting and cupping.

The half-day crop includes a lunch where of course more coffee is served along with some great food.

Coffee in the Morning – how about Tea in the Afternoon at the home of Rosamund Carr who wrote Land of a  Thousand Hills: My Life in Rwanda.” She was a close friend of Dian Fossey, the renowned gorilla researcher and parts of the Gorilla in the Mist movie where filmed here.

There you can stroll through the beautiful English gardens and enjoy the variety of flowers and birds.  Take in the views of Mount Karisimbi, Mikeno and Nyiragongo – all part of the Virunga Volcano Chain.

On your guided tour you will learn the life and legacy of Rosamund Carr and how she touched the lives of many including orphans of the genocide.

Visit the original Imbabazi Orphanage and hear stories of triumph over the evil of the Genocide – end with tea and cookies and an Intore Dance performance.

We take the pleasant and scenic drive to Kigali – the Singapore of Africa, one of the cleanest African Capitals where the things such as traffic lights actually work and where things are not as chaotic as in other African cities.

Since the Genocide of 1994 – when the city  was in ruins and  liberated by the present government on July 4th – 1994 – the transformation has been stunning.

We check into the made famous through the movie Hotel Rwanda – the hotel Mille des Collines.  The Hotel Rwanda story to many including the famous General in charge of the UN Contingent during the Genocide – Romeo Dallaire – see the hotel’s link below for more insight. The Hotel Rwanda used a South African Hotel instead of the genuine Hotel Rwanda in Kigali.

The Hotel has been upgraded since 1994 to higher International Standards and remains a favorite with many Kigali Residents, business visitors and Tourists.

Their breakfast is one of the best in Africa – their food is simply superb.  Rooms overlook the garden, swimming pool and Kigali

 Day 14 – Kigali – Departure for Home:

After Breakfast we visit one of Rwanda’s sacred places the Gisozi Genocide Memorial as part of our city tour of Kigali before your departure for home.

The Genocide Memorial is most meaningful place where 250,000 plus victims of the Genocide area interned – there is also a  children’s section – the memorial is done in the Spirit of  “never again.”

The memorial is also a testimony of the triumph over evil and hatred – thousands from around the world have visited this site since its opening.

A nice lunch at one of the better Kigali restaurants – the afternoon depends on your departure time.

Visits to arts and crafts markets can be included in Kigali and you can have your lunch at the original Hotel Rwanda before departing
