10-Days Discovering the Unexplored Uganda Safari– Kidepo Valley Park – Scenic Mount Elgon – Sipi Falls


Venture off of the beaten Tourist Paths and take the “Road Less Traveled” on this Unexplored  Uganda Safari – Kidepo Valley Park, the untamed Karamoja Region and Scenic Sipi Falls which is 10-Days of exploring  Kidepo Valley Park, Uganda’s most remote and unvisited National Park in the vast, rugged, semi-arid  Kidepo Valley bordering South Sudan and Kenya.

Here is one of the best wildlife parks in Africa according to CNN (named#3) ou will find grassy savanna with rocky outcroppings here and there, all overshadowed by steep jagged mountains reaching in from South-Sudan while in the west you look down into the Kenyan Turkana plains. In 2017 the Wanderlust Movement named it as the Best Destination in Africa.

There are few that venture (less than 10 new visitors a day) here but those that do are rewarded by what they find. Wild Africa as they imagine it to be only better.  It is Africa as it was 50 years ago – Africa without the crowds…


Day 1 – Arrival – Welcome to Uganda:

 You will be welcomed by your personal driver-guide who will be with you for the length of the Safari. He will assist you with matters way beyond the safari and your guide not only to the parks but introduce to you Uganda and its culture.

Most arrivals from the US – Europe – UK are late and clients prefer the short drive instead of a long one into two – for early arrivals we can make alternate lodging arrangements.

Arrival Notifications:

Visiting Uganda and Rwanda you will need a East African Tourism Visa – The visa can be applied for online.  Cost is 100 usd. It can also be bought upon arrival in Uganda at Entebbe International Airport.

Yellow Fever Immunization Certificate is required – obtain it in your country of origin 30 days prior to arrival here, 10 days would be the latest for it to be effective.

Depart from the airport for your night’s lodging. Airport Guesthouse is a reliable budget option set in a nice garden, 2 Friends Beach Hotel is a great upmarket option along Lake Victoria.

Day 2: Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary:

After Breakfast  your 17 day Uganda – Rwanda Gorilla – Chimpanzee Trekking – Wildlife Safari begins with a  journey to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary. The drive into and through Kampala will be an eye opener, the traffic seemingly overwhelming, but in the midst of what appears as chaos there is some order and soon you will be through the city heading through small villages into the open countryside through the Luweero Triangle and one thing you will be amazed is the color green and vegetation, banana gardens everywhere.

The Drive Time to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary from Entebbe is 4 hours depending on traffic.

We reach Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary  and check into upmarket Amuka Safari Lodge – budget lodging available at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary Guesthouse.  Amuka Lodge has beautiful cottage created with recovered wood from an old sawmill and tented material – delightful and so will the be lunch that has proven in the past to be a simple culinary delight.

During the afternoon it is off with guides to track Rhinos which is a most unusual experience anywhere where you get to see the Rhinos up close allowing for some great photos and up close viewing of these majestic animals.

Day 3 Kidepo Valley Par k:

Early Breakfast and we continue our journey to Kidepo Valley Park arriving here around lunchtime.  The journey is through diverse and different terrain than what you have seen thus far in Uganda.

Lunch on the road

Arrive in the late afternoon in Kidepo Valley Park, remote and unvisited with less than 10 new visitors per day.  The park everyone talks about but few visit.  Those who do venture here on a Safari with us, find a park beyond dreams and expectations.

Check into the Lodge you have chosen for your Safari , get settled and become familiar with your surrounding having a cold drink.  Often you will see wildlife near the lodge you have chosen.

Day 4 Kidepo Valley Park: 

After Breakfast a morning  Game Drive through the Narus Valley where you will see herds of buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, zebras and hopefully some lions, leopard and the elusive cheetah.  Besides that there are the many birds you might find along the way.  This is a slow drive so that you do not miss anything, stopping wherever you desire to take pictures of the fabulous wildlife and birds, fauna and flora along the way.

Lunch

We are off to Karankorog Hot Springs with lots of wildlife along the way.  No game drive is the same even if you took the same route twice, there is always something new to seen and found.  The scenery, animals, birds will amaze you and it is best to keep the camera close at hand to get the best shots along the way.

Lunch at the Lodge and then it off for an afternoon with Karamajong people for a cultural tour about how this proud tribe that has refused most influences for change.  Their love for cattle is comparable to the better known Maasai of Kenya and Tanzania.

Their ways are unique to them and they are a proud warrior like people who believe that is their God-given right to cattle, even cattle belonging to others.  You will see how they live, how they prepare food, dance, enjoy life and what their cattle means to them. Return to the Lodge for dinner and a quiet night in the wilderness, or should one say, a night where the only music are the sounds of the African night in Kidepo Park.

Day 5 Kidepo Valley Park: 

 Breakfast as you wake up to the sounds of birds you might have never heard before. Enjoy the wonderful breakfast prepared for you, a true culinary delight and of course there is the presentation.

Morning guided Nature walk that will prove to be a delight in the wilderness with only you and the wildlife around you.

Lunch back at the Lodge

Afternoon game drive-exploring this fabulous, remote park for its wildlife, its many birds and simply enjoying the experience of viewing animals so close to the vehicle. It is surely a most breath taking experience.

Day 6-Mount Morungole – a Visit to the Ik People:

This means an early morning start and a day of cultural encounters and a hike up the scenic Mount Morungole to  meet one of the most remote tribes in Africa – the Ik people – misunderstood, maligned and on the edge of extinction.

You need to be in reasonable shape for this all day journey up and back from Mount Morungole, as to what to wear–  light hiking boots, jeans, long-sleeved shirt, broad-brimmed hat, several liters of water are all helpful for this day’s journey high into the mountains to meet the Ik people.

You will have a competent guide and military escort on your day’s journey to the mountain people of Uganda. We also use 75 usd for a gift package of staples for the village which is carried up by Ik young people.

The hike is a feast for the eyes along, add on top of that the cultural encounter and you have a long lasting memory.

Day – 7 – Moroto – Karamoja:

 Breakfast and we drive to Moroto where we reach the Moroto Hotel by lunch time.  The Hotel is located at the foot of Mount Moroto. A rugged appearing Mountain that towers over the Karamoja Plain.  This is the central area of the Karamoja region.

There are about 370,000 Karamojong that live in the region. Most are still Warrior-Nomads that move with their cattle beyond the Manyatta that you will visit today but makeshift Kraals in the wilderness.

Day – 8 – Sipi Falls:

Breakfast and we depart for Sipi Falls with lunch along the way arri ve at Sipi River Lodge in the late afternoon overlooking Sipi Falls.

It is a  reasonably priced lodge with excellent food and great views – a great place to relax and take in the surrounding views of the falls and other scenic wonders.

They also offer a coffee tour and you even get to grind the beans in a hand-grinder.

The local coffee, commonly referred to as Bugisu coffee is quite good, so good that Starbuck’s in now selling Sipi Falls coffee grown right near the Sipi River Lodge.  It is a good Arabica bean that makes a great cup of Java and you will get to taste staying here.

Day 6 Mount Elgon:  

Breakfast – and we are off to Mount Elgon where you have a choice of activities –Mountain Biking on the trails of Mount Elgon National Park, Guided Nature walks that fit your fit you, Birding, even Para-Gliding is available.

The activities can be all day with a packed lunch along as you enjoy Mount Elgon with its various vegetation zone and the beauty of nature all around you.

Better still, much of it can be seen from the privacy of your veranda, but the best way to see the wildlife is up close, on foot.

Day 7 – Entebbe:

Breakfast and we head for Jinja where we visit the source of the Nile and have lunch at the Sunset Hotel along the Nile..

Back to Entebbe which we reach in the late afternoon for your flight out.
