Day 1 – Arrival – Welcome to Uganda:

10-Day Unexplored Uganda Safari - Kidepo Valley Park - Mount ElgonArrive in Entebbe. You will need to buy a regular Tourist Visa for $50. A Yellow Fever Certificate is required. Rare exceptions are made, such as in cases of pregnancy.

Your driver-guide will meet you outside of the Arrivals area. 2Friends Beach Hotel is just 10 minutes from the airport.

The Hotel overlooks Lake Victoria. It has a private beach and a novel Tree-House Bar. A Swimming pool where you can take an evening dip.

Your room is one of the Terrace rooms with AC and WiFi. A great view of the lake and the Ssese Islands.

Dinner is included, and you will enjoy the restaurant where culinary delights await you.

Day 2: Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary:10-Day Unexplored Uganda Safari - Kidepo Valley Park - Mount Elgon

Depart for Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary after Breakfast by 8:00 AM. Drive time is about four-hours most days.

Your Lodge for your one-day stay is Amuka Lodge. Your room is a pleasant permanent tented cottage with en-suite. You have a porch where you can relax and have your morning coffee and or a late afternoon traditional safari sundowner.

The lodge is a small swimming pool, which beckons one to take a refreshing dip into it. Meals are in the main lodge, and often, it is a South African delicacy from the charcoal grill.

The lodge and Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary are the perfect stay-over location for those headed to Kidepo Valley National Park in northwestern Uganda.

Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is a former ranch that some years ago was turned into the present Rhino Sanctuary. The 10-Day Unexplored Uganda Safari - Kidepo Valley Park - Mount ElgonSanctuary has an electrical fence around. The area is well-guarded 24-hours per day.

In 2022 some of the Rhinos will be translocated into Murchison Falls National Park. The last White Rhino in Uganda was poached in 1982.

The Breeding Progam taking place in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary has been a success beyond expectations. Measures are now being taken to guard the Rhinos against poachers when they are released in Murchison Falls Park.

During the afternoon, trek the Rhinos on Foot. Rangers guide you. They take you within a distance of 10 meters from Rhinos. You will have the opportunity to take some great photos.

Day 3 Kidepo Valley Park:

Today we drive to undiscovered Uganda. Our goal this morning is Kidepo Valley National Park in the Karamoja region 10-Day Unexplored Uganda Safari - Kidepo Valley Park - Mount Elgonof northeastern Uganda.  Drive-Time to the park is seven hours plus depending on weather and road conditions.

We stop for lunch in the sleepy town of Kitgum. It is then another three hours to Adere Safari Lodge inside of Kidepo Valley park.

The lodge we are headed for the new upmarket Adere Safari Lodge, which is located within the park. Here you will have a private Cottage with a spacious room with en-suite bath. You have a private deck the overlooks the savannah.  Today you might want to have a traditional safari sundowner. You might try a Uganda Waragi with Krest Bitter Lemon. It is not quite what the British Colonials had, probably better.

It has been a long day, and a dip into the pool might be right for you. You can also head for the main lodge where others on safari here gather to swap stories of the day’s experiences.

The meals are a delight, and you will probably wonder how the chef can create such a meal in the wilderness that surrounds you. As the night takes over the day, the sounds of the wild come near you. Enjoy your stay in Kidepo Valley Park, Africa, as it used to be 50 plus years ago.

Day 4 Kidepo Valley Park: 

10-Day Unexplored Uganda Safari - Kidepo Valley Park - Mount ElgonAfter or before you have Breakfast, it is that early  morning  Game Drive through the Narus Valley where you will see herds of buffaloes,

Elephants, giraffes, zebras. It is the time that carnivores such as lions, leopards, and the elusive cheetahs return from the hunt and can often be seen.

Besides the wildlife there

Birds you might find along the way.  It is a slow drive so that you do not miss anything, stopping wherever you desire to take pictures of the fabulous wildlife and birds, fauna and flora along the way.

Lunch

We are off to Karankorog Hot Springs with lots of wildlife along the way.  No game drive would be the same, even if you took the same route twice. There is always something new to seen and found.  The scenery, animals, birds will amaze you, and it is best to keep the camera close at hand to get the best shots along the way.

Lunch at the Lodge and then it off for an afternoon with Karamajong people for a cultural tour about how this proud10-Day Unexplored Uganda Safari - Kidepo Valley Park - Mount Elgon tribe that has refused most influences for change.  Their love for cattle is comparable to the better known Maasai of Kenya and Tanzania.

Their ways are unique to them, and they are a proud warrior-like people who believe that is their God-given right to cattle, even cattle belonging to others.

You will see how they live, how they prepare food, dance, enjoy life, and what their animals mean to them.

Return to the Lodge for dinner and a quiet night in the wilderness, or should one say, a night where the only music is the sounds of the African night in Kidepo Park.

Day-5 Kidepo Valley Park:

Morning guided Nature walk that will prove to be a delight in the wilderness with only you and the wildlife around you.

Lunch back at the Lodge

Afternoon game drive-exploring this fabulous, remote park for its wildlife, its many birds, and merely enjoying the experience of viewing animals so close to the vehicle. It is undoubtedly the most breathtaking experience.

Day 6-Mount Morungole – a Visit to the Ik People:

It means an early morning start and a day of cultural encounters and a hike up the scenic Mount Morungole to meet 10-Day Unexplored Uganda Safari - Kidepo Valley Park - Mount Elgonone of the most remote tribes in Africa – the Ik people – misunderstood, misrepresented, and on the edge of extinction.

You need to be in reasonable shape for this all-day journey up and back from Mount Morungole, as to what to wear–  light hiking boots, jeans, long-sleeved shirt, broad-brimmed hat, several liters of water are all helpful for this day’s journey high into the mountains to meet the Ik people.

You will have a competent guide and military escort on your day’s journey to the mountain people of Uganda. We also use 75 USD for a gift package of staples for the village, which is carried up by Ik young people.

The hike is a feast for the eyes along, add on top of that the cultural encounter, and you have a long-lasting memory.

Day – 7 – Moroto – Karamoja:

0Breakfast, and we drive to Moroto, where we reach the Karamoja Safari Camp by lunchtime.  The Hotel is located at the foot of Mount Moroto. Lunch

An afternoon with Karamajong people for a cultural tour about how this proud tribe that has refused most influences for change.  Their love for cattle is comparable to the better known Maasai of Kenya and Tanzania.

There are about 370,000 Karamojong that live in the region. Most are still Warrior-Nomads that move with their cattle beyond the Manyatta that you will visit today but makeshift Kraals in the wilderness.

Day – 8 – Sipi Falls:

10-Day Unexplored Uganda Safari - Kidepo Valley Park - Mount ElgonBreakfast and we depart for Sipi Falls with lunch along the way, arrive at Sipi River Lodge in the late afternoon overlooking Sipi Falls.

It is a  reasonably priced lodge with excellent food and great views – a great place to relax and take in the surrounding views of the falls and other scenic wonders.

They also offer a coffee tour, and you even get to grind the beans in a hand-grinder.

The local coffee, commonly referred to as Bugisu coffee is quite good, so good that Starbuck’s is now selling Sipi Falls coffee grown right near the Sipi River Lodge.  It is a good Arabica bean that makes a great cup of Java, and you will get to taste staying here.

Morning nature walks to Sipi Falls – plus some of the caves here underneath and behind the falls – it is a unique combination between local culture, stunning scenery, our tropical birds, and the morning sun.

Breakfast – and we are off to Mount Elgon, where you have a choice of activities –Mountain Biking on the trails of Mount Elgon National Park, Guided Nature walks that fit your fit you, Birding, even Para-Gliding is available.

The activities can be all day with packed lunch along as you enjoy Mount Elgon with its various vegetation zone and the beauty of nature all around you.

Better still, much of it can be seen from the privacy of your veranda, but the best way to see the wildlife is up close, on foot.

Day 10 – Entebbe:

Breakfast and we head for Jinja, where we visit the source of the Nile and have lunch at the Sunset Hotel along the Nile.

Back to Entebbe, which we reach in the late afternoon for your flight out.
