Arrival in Kigali:  Airport pickup in Kigali and arrival Hotel can be arranged for you.  The Hotel of choice for moderately priced Safari Goers has been Heaven Boutique Hotel.

Day 1 – Drive to Rushaga – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in Uganda:

Your private 10-Day Big 7 Gorilla-Chimpanzee Wildlife Safari begins. We leave your hotel in Kigali for  Rushaga at 6:30 am in the morning.  Drive-Time is 4-Hours-Time Change to East African Time at the border.

Check into Bwindi Jungle Lodge along Lake Mulehe and have lunch.

Afternoon Options:  Bwindi Jungle Lodge offers many optional activities to its guests at the most reasonable Price.  Dugout Canoeing, Boating, and Birding.  Interactive Village Walk in a village that is reached by boat. biking, birding.

You can just relax and read a good book from our Gorilla Reads Selection.  We have some select choices for you there.

 Bwindi Jungle Lodge – Moderate:

This is a great newer lodge combining a base for Gorilla Trekking in the Rushaga Area with the added plus of being along Lake Mulehe with the Virunga Volcanoes providing a beautiful backdrop.

Private, en-suite cottages, consistent customer service, meals prepared with an Italian touch.  The private cottage can accommodate up to three in one  This is the lodge we most often use for our clients and that in large part due to the lack of complaints about the lodge from our Clients.

The Cost per night is greatly from the list price used by loge on their site due to the favorable rates we are able to pass onto our clients.

Activities that can be done at the lodge include Biking. boating activities including birding, dugout canoeing, village visit and local hiking.


Day 2 – Gorilla Trekking – Rushag Area with Permits included:

Early Breakfast and take your packed lunch from the lodge, have a daypack,  3 liters of water, daypack, long trousers, gardening gloves for pulling yourself up on branches, long-sleeved shirt. waterproof boots, hat, rain jacket, use a walking stick and the services of a porter at 20 USD.

Gorilla Trekking begins with an orientation which includes being assigned to a Gorilla Family that you will be trekking.  This is done with your input.  The length of the Gorilla Trek is 3 to 6 hours long.  In many cases, a packed lunch is not necessary.

Please Note:  You can choose the Gorilla Habituation Experience that is 4 hours with a Gorilla Famly and only 4 participants.  Permits are very limited and may not be available for your date,

Gorilla Trekking Tips and Advice:

After the Gorilla Trek:  Many like to relax and reflect, talk about their gorilla Encounter in Bwindi Forest.  activities can be done at the lodge if you decide to canoe, hike or bike.

 Day 3- Queen Elizabeth Park:

After Breakfast, we drive to Queen Elizabeth Park – Ishasha Area. The very scenic drive takes 5-hours. On arrival, we take in lunch at Savannah Resort.

Afterward, we take a Game Drive in search of the Tree-Climbing Lions of Ishasha.  This the best place in East Africa where you can readily see the Tree Climbing Lions sleep away the day. Besides Lions, there is a large Elephant – Buffalo Population here

We continue to the Northern Area of the park it is 2-hours drive time where we check into Enganzi Game Lodge overlooking the Western Rift Escarpment and the Savannah.

Note:  You can add a night here and extend the Safari to 11 days reducing drive times on this day

Day 4- Queen Elizabeth Park:

Lion Tracking Research – here you are with Researchers from the Carnivore Project and track the Collared Lions, leopards in this part of the park, not only will you see lions, but this a learning experience about the lions and other predators.

While on the Lion Tracking Research you will see other wildlife that is found in that area of Queen Elizabeth parks such as Elephant and Buffalo Herds,

.In the afternoon the fabulous Kazinga Channel Wildlife – Birding, Reptile Boat Safari that is one of the highlights of your Queen Elizabeth Park Visit. The Boat Safari is 2-Hours along – there are many photo-opportunities for you since the boat will love slowly along the Channel

Day 5- Kibale Forest:

 Explosion Crater Drive:

Take the 27 kilometer Explosion Crater Drive that was featured in National Geographic,  It is the highest point in the park with views of the Western Rift Escarpment, Rwenzori Mountains, Lake Edward and George, the Craters and more..

Sunrise is a good time for picture-taking here.  The views are fantastic and you will see some wildlife such as Elephants.

After the drive, we continue to Kibale Forest which is a 2 hour plus drive and check into Isunga Lodge, a quality midrange lodge.

3 PM – Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary Hike.

This is a guided 3-hour hike through a Jungle Swamp, much of it is on planks that act like a boardwalk above the swamp.  Your experienced guide is from the local community that has maintained the Wetlands for many years with thousands visiting each year.

During the Afternoon you might spot Chimpanzees, Colobus Monkeys, also baboons.  The area is well-known for birds, the chief attraction is the Large Blue Turaco. When it comes to Mammals you can see otters, bush pigs, mongoose, and the rare Sitatunga Antelope to name a few.

The Bigodi Wetlands Walk is one of the highlights of your time in Kibale Forest and a visit there receives many raves from our clients.

Lodge: Isunga Lodge

Isunga Lodge:

A moderately priced lodge that gives its guests value plus for their money.  We have used this lodge with great success on our safaris and our Clients have responded more than positively.

There are 6 cottages with an en-suite bath in a very private setting.

The food is prepared in a thoughtful manner and the service is excellent. There are much higher cost moderately priced lodges in Uganda that do not match what you receive at Isunga Lodge.

Isunga Lodge has one of the highest TripAdvisor Ratings in the area.  Our past clients have loved their stay here at a most reasonable price 20 minutes from both Bigodi Wetlands and Kibale Forest.

Day 6 – Chimpanzee Habituation Experience:

Early Breakfast and you are off to meet with your Ranger-Guide who will take you into Kibale Forest where a Chimpanzee Group is being habituated, a process that takes up to two years.  Habituation teaches the Chimpanzees to allow humans in their presence.

A chimp community can number over 100 members. Chimpanzees live in a relational social structure,  the alpha males defend against other chimpanzees trying to move into the territory.

Females are part of smaller family groups and nurture the young. Way before you see the chimpanzees, you will hear their hooting calls in the distance.  Soon you come upon them and spend one hour with them observing their ways and habits. Normally you might see 4 to 6 primates here, many of the birds, the butterflies, mammals found here and of course the forest itself with its vegetation that is unique.

On an all-day habituation, you will see a lot more than on a trek. It is important that you wear the right clothing and shoes and have at least 3 liters of water with you, plus a packed lunch

Day 7 – Drive to Murchison Falls Park:

 Breakfast and depart Kibale Forest at 6:30 am for the drive to Murchison Falls Parks stopping for lunch in the town of Hoima at the Kontiki Hotel.

In the Afternoon we cross the River Nile by Ferry to the Wildlife Side of the park where you check into Pakuba Lodge.

Note Time Permitting:  Sunset game drive may be taken depending on the time of arrival and your stamina. Late afternoon we are off for the first game drive in Murchison Falls National Park where you can see lions, elephants, giraffes, antelopes of all types, warthogs, buffaloes.

There are also many Savanna Birds that you will come across The vehicle has a pop-up roof so that you can stand and take better pictures.  Your Driver- Guide and a Uganda Wildlife Ranger will point out the animals that you might not miss them.

Back to your lodging and there is nothing like a sunset over the Nile.

Lodge: IPakuba Lodge

 Pakuba Safari Lodge:

Pakuba Safari Lodge is a midrange Lodge in the best location in the park for wildlife activities such as game drives, boat rides on the River Nile and more.  You are also a short distance near the Ferry Crossing on the River Nile at Paraa.

The Lodge offers single and double rooms, triples are available as well as family roooms. There is a swimming pool for you to enjoy which is a rarity at moderately priced lodges in Ugadna.  It is also the only midrange lodge that has rooms with Air Conditioning in them.

It ha received the Award for Excellence from TripAdvisor and its customer service is in line with that award.  Meals sumptuous and Vegetarians and Vegans can be accommodated.

While staying at the lodge you will see plenty of wildlife here such as Elephants, Buffaloes, Giraffes, Antelopes.

 


Day 8 – Murchison Falls Park

Morning Game Drive with its birds, lions, leopards, elephants, hippos, buffaloes, warthogs, giraffes, humorous appearing warthogs.  A Game Drive can be taken before or after breakfast.

After lunch, it is one of the highlights of your Murchison Falls National Park Safari, the boat safari trip up the Nile River.  Slowly moving along the river bank viewing crocodiles, an abundance of hippos, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, lots of birds including the fish eagle, storks and so much more. The boat moves gently up the river and stays on the left-hand side so that you see most of the animals who come to the river.  Herds of Elephants cooling off, Hippopotamus frolicking, crocodiles just dozing in the African sun. Then before you is Murchison Falls – the most powerful waterfall in the World.

At the bottom of the falls disembark and take the guided hike up along the most powerful waterfall in the world – Murchison Falls.  You will be cooled down with some mist from the falls to keep you comfortable.

At the top of the falls, you are met by your driver guide and you will cross the Nile by ferry and head back to your lodge for dinner and rest. This is the same trail that Winston Churchill used in 1907 when he visited the Falls and came down it

 Day 9 –Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary:

Morning Game Drive in Murchison Falls Park and we cross the River Nile by ferry as we head for Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary where we reach by lunchtime checking into Amuka Safari Lodge.

Afternoon Rhino Trekking on Foot.  Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is a well-guarded Rhino Sanctuary where Rhinos are bred for future release into Murchison Falls Park. The reserve is very similar to Murchison Falls Park, however, it is ringed with an electrical fence.

A Rhino Trek o foot is about two hours in length.  It has een a safe activity for over a decade.  You are about 10 meters from the Rhinos and have great opportunities to take pictures.

You can see other wildlife here while you are trekking Rhinos with rangers who know the Rhino and the terrain of Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary.

Lodge: Amuka Lodge

 Amuka Safari Lodge:

Amuka Lodge is a moderately priced lodge with great food and service. It is the only moderately priced lodge inside of the sanctuary.

Spend a day or stay overnight at Amuka Lodge at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – a destination off of the map for most but put it on yours and if you are going to or coming from Murchison Falls Park it Ziwa gives you the possibility to see all the Big 5 animals and more.

Amuka Lodge is known for giving visitors a comfortable stay in one of their tented cottages.  There is also a swimming pool for you enjoy while staying here.

The Food at Amuka Safari Lodge is some of the best you will have while on a Safari in Uganda.

If you like food from the Barbeau, Amuka Lodge is the right one for you.


Day 10 – Entebbe Airport:

Early morning bot ride in Lugogo Swamp where you sport the Elusive Shoebill Stork plus many other water birds and mammals. You are with a knowledgeable guide to show the wonders of this swamp.

Afterward, we continue to Entebbe which is a 4 hour drive time.


10-Day Gorilla-Chimpanzee Trekking plus Big-5 Wildlife Safari includes All Permits and activities except where it says optional.  All lodging, full-board is included except drinks, tips, laundry at lodges.
