It is also home of the Large Blue Turaco, you will find lots of brown parrots and other exotic birds here that you will find most interesting.

Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary is also home to the semi-aquatic sitatunga antelope with its webbed toes – one thing that grabs most people is the vegetation here, very tropical-like, very jungle like and it is simply a fabulous place to visit.

Day 4 – Chimpanzee Habituation Experience:

Very early breakfast – pick up a packed lunch and it is off for an all-day chimpanzee habituation experience in Gorilla - Chimpanzee - Wildlife Adventure SafariKibale Forest.

A chimpanzee habituation experience is spending the day with researchers, trackers, all those that are part of the habituation process which makes chimpanzees used to humans being around them. This a unique experience unlike Chimpanzee Tracking here you have limited participants that are allowed to partake in Chimpanzee Habituation Experience each day.

Kibale Forest is the best place in East Africa but there are 12 other primate species in the park, there are numerous bird, butterfly and mammal species that you might see during your full day in the forest.

What to wear:  For the day it is best to bring a daypack with your lunch and two liters of water, maybe a few granola bars, hiking boots, light rain jacket, wear jeans, long-sleeved shirts for protection against being scratched, a wide-brimmed hat might be good if you are fair-skinned. Insect repellent will come in handy.

Day 5 Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon:

Gorilla - Chimpanzee - Wildlife Adventure SafariBreakfast and we are off into the foothills of the Mountains of the Moon. This is a two-hour drive plus and most scenic as you drive by crater lakes, the Rwenzori Mountains in the distance.

We are heading for the small village of Ruboni where the keepers of the Mountains of the Moon live, the Bakonzo people live. This is a village is off the beaten tourism path except for those that want to climb the mountains of the moon – the Rwenzori Mountains with its snow-capped mountains is a mountain range higher than the Alps and the tallest mountain range in Africa.

Check into Ruboni Community Camp or the Upmarket Equator Snow Lodge where you stay in a cottage with self-contained bathrooms – they are thatched and have a small porch at the front of each one of them. We have had many people here to both enjoy village life and explore the Rwenzori Foothills which is a nice mix

Lunch at the Ruboni Restaurant and recently they have received some more training from an up-market lodge in rubonicollageorder to help them cook higher quality food, but even before that our past clients enjoyed their time here.

In the afternoon we take a guided village walk where you meet the people that live here, the local blacksmith who practices his craft as in the days of old, a story-teller, ladies making baskets and crafts, a traditional healer that will explain various herbs, how roots, leaves, and other items from nearby forest are used and the ailments that they treat.

There are the food preparatiosn and cooking done over traditional fires, even making of alcohol such as local beer. It is a most interesting time and supports the villagers. An option for you is taking some drumming lessons that you will find most enjoyable.

Dinner at Ruboni and evening traditional dance performance for you by the young people – another treat in the foothills.

Lodging: Budget – Ruboni Community Camp  Upmarket – Equator Snow Lodge

Meal Plan: Breakfast – Lunch – Dinner

Day 6 Queen Elizabeth Park:

Breakfast and we head off for either a hike up into the Rwenzori foothills or through the forest. The hike up will take you to a view spot where you can take some great photos – but also enjoy the mountain atmosphere and plants. Be sure to look for some the large three-horned chameleons, they are quite a sight. There are a number of choices of the trails that you can take.

On the forest walk, you can even learn how to fish with your hands, something that might come in handy some day. Plants, flowers, trees, monkeys, smaller mammals, and lots of birds – Ruboni is a most beautiful spot.

After lunch, we head for Queen Elizabeth Park and the Mweya region of it. The drive from the Rwenzori Mountain Foothill to Queen Elizabeth Park is quite a breathtaking scene.

Before we check into Bush Safari Lodge we take the most scenic Katwe Explosion Craters drive.  27 kilometers of scenic wonders.  It is the highest point of Queen Elizabeth Park with splendid views of the Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon, the Western Rift Escarpment with the vast Savannah below, Lake George and Lake Edwards connected by the natural Kazinga Channel – there are about 12 explosion craters, made famous recently by a picture in National Geographic.

The Katwe explosion craters were created about 7000 years when there was a violent upheaval that destroyed much of the wildlife in Queen Elizabeth Park as these craters and many others were formed.

Check into the  lodge of your choice

We take a late afternoon game drive across the candelabra euphoria tree studded savanna, the vehicle has a pop-up roof so Queen-Elizabeth-Game-Drive.jpgthat you can stand and take better pictures if you use a bean bag you can steady the camera for better pictures.

Options: Instead of going on the early morning game drive the other option is to head out with Carnivore Project Research Team Gorilla - Chimpanzee - Wildlife Adventure Safaritracking lions that have electronic collars on.

3 pm: A Boat Safari ride on Kazinga Channel with the highest concentration of hippos in Africa.  At one time there were too many hippos and their grazing denuded the surrounding grasslands.  Before independence, they would be culled by the wildlife authorities.  The locals ate the meet and after Idi Amin came to power, poachers and soldiers, and again at the fall of Idi Amin, many hippos were shot by locals, rebels, and soldiers.

There are also crocodiles (crocodiles had been absent for a few thousand years but started to show up in the 1950s and have increased in numbers), countless of birds on the shore and overhead and in the water of the channel.  This is a pleasant boat ride where you can get some great pictures of elephants, antelopes, predators in late afternoon and buffaloes on shore.
