A 3 day Mini-Hike in the Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon
Hiking the Mountains on a Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon Mini-Hike Trail of three days
The Rwenzori Mountains of the Moon Mini-Hike is what had been the most direct route between the small town of Bundibugyo to Fort Portal. This is not a trek for the queasy – it is a tough 1,500 to 3,000 meter high trek over what is the steep Northern Rwenzori Ridge which is known as Bwamba Pass.
The Trail takes you through isolated mountain villages of the Bakonzo People, Bamboo Forests, and fantastic views of the Rwenzori Mountains and the Western Rift. This Mini-Hike opens up the Rwenzori Mountains to those that do not have the energy or time to climb the peaks of the mountains.
This Rwenzori Mini-Hike is easily combined with a 3 day Semliki Valley Hiking Safari – 14 kilometers where your mini-hike ends and our Driver Guide will meet you – the Combined Safari would be a 5 day Rwenzori Mountains – Semliki Valley Hiking Safari.
Drive to Fort Portal from Kampala – about 4 hours plus check into the Hotel of your choice getting ready for your Rwenzori Mountains Mini-Hike.
In the afternoon we do some light hiking and visit the Amabere Caves, a place of myth, legend an scenic beauty. This is a guided walk where you learn about the history of the Toro People. There is also a pleasant waterfall for you enjoy after visiting the cave.
The guided Hike continues and you visit three nearby explosion crater lakes which speak of times of the earth’s upheaval that left countless of explosion crater lakes behind and some of them exploded when the Egyptians were building the pyramids.
