Murchison Falls fishing at its Best – Fishing – Wildlife Safari
Fishing for Nile Perch on the River Nile – Combine Fishing with Wildlife and Birding at Murchison Falls National Park in Uganda
Many have seen the classic 1992 Movie “A River runs through it” about two brothers who loved fishing in Montana. Here in Uganda “A River runs through it.” Not just any River but the historic River Nile from Lake Victoria through Uganda into Sudan toward Egypt and the Mediterranean Sea.
The Nile Perch is found in various rivers in Africa but one of the best and most scenic spots in the World – just below Murchison Falls. There is wildlife, the water birds, the sounds and scenery of the most powerful waterfall in the world and you are there on the banks of the river or in a boat in search of the largest fresh water fish in Africa – the Nile Perch. The largest fish caught here at Murchison Falls on the Nile River weighed an incredible 237 pounds. That is a lot of fish and could probably feed a small local village here in Uganda.
People flock to the Nile at Murchison Falls to fish for the Nile Perch and the same time they not along or on any river but the Nile River in the African Wild of Uganda – if they are fishing from the banks just below the falls they just may be in the spot where the British explorer’s canoe was capsized and they waited to be rescued. Where Ernest Hemingway and his wife and pilot crashed after hitting an old telephone wire near the falls and if they hiked down the side of the falls they are on the same trail that Winston Churchill took down to board a boat on the way to Sudan in 1907.
Yes, a river runs through it, but not just any river, the historic River Nile and you could be there fishing for the largest fresh water fish in Africa – the Nile Perch in a setting that no movie could do justice, even though some scenes for the “African Queen” were shot right here with Katherine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart.
If you are fishing by boat you will ride up the Nile an on the riverbank will be hippos, elephants, buffaloes, antelopes and Nile crocodiles. The scenery, the setting, the wildlife, the forests coming to the water’s edge all creating a tapestry of incredible beauty and you could be right in the midst of it all holding up a fish of a size that you have never caught in a river or lake before.
Not only can you catch Nile Perch here but also catfish can be caught here up to 100 pounds plus in size, Tiger Fish both small and large ones plus other smaller species of fish.
The Nile at Murchison Falls is an angler’s dream come true and the beauty of fishing here is that you can combine a fishing trip with a wildlife safari here at Murchison Falls National Park. If fishing is your passion – the Nile at Murchison Falls is the place for you, in the heart of Africa, in its Pearl – Incredible Uganda…from Kampala…jon
