You can now traverse across Lake Victoria on a comfortable, 65 foot catamaran ferry that was built in Everett, Washington in the USA and assembled in Uganda in order to give travelers safe passage to Kalangala one of the Ssese Islands on Lake Victoria. A small Washington State company makes a big impact on the lives of Ugandans and provides passage for tourists wanting to visit the hidden Ssese Islands of Uganda.
This is the first of ferries built by Thain Boat Works that will will give more and reliable and dependable travel options across Lake Victoria from Port Bell – others are to follow including connections to Mwanza in Tanzania and Kisumu in Kenya. At one time there was a reliable ferry service across Lake Victoria but it has deteriorated over the years.
EarthWise Ferry Service is not only providing safe ferry service with fully licensed crew – the ferries are outfitted with the latest state of the art GPS navigational systems, up to date communication systems, life jackets, fire suppression equipment to name just a few.
You can now travel across Lake Victoria at 18 knots per hour, not only is the MV Amani a safe transport vessel it is also an eco-friendly vessel using vegetable oil as fuel that in turn provides support and income for Ugandan farmers. Beyond that the income generated by the ferries will support the Agathos Foundation which in turn supports Pilgrim Africa, a Ugandan Non-Profit Organization.
