Beyond Canned Safari Tours – an Immersion into the real Africa
Immersing oneself into Authentic Africa
Arrive at Entebbe Airport and you are met by the representative of the tour company that you have booked your Safari with. You are whisked off into a lovely
hotel for the evening where you enjoy dinner and the lovely evening that is so Ugandan.
The next morning you are off on your whirlwind safari tour of Uganda, fabulous lodges, great wildlife, the chimpanzees were amazing and the hour with the mountain gorillas – what can one say? Seven, ten, 12 days later your Safari Tour Company representative takes you back to Entebbe International Airport, you use your last Ugandan money to buy some souvenirs and you are off to back home. You have spent a week or more in Africa, you have seen Africa, you have seen its wildlife, primates and most likely simply amazing. You stayed at some incredible places with great food and unique lodging facilities, all enjoyable and memorable.
Observation: You arrived, you saw, you experienced but most likely missed the real Africa – its people – besides a few kind waiters and waitresses, besides your friendly driver-guide, there are not many Africans that you met. Safari Tours are great, they are simply fantastic, but normally you, the visitor to a country such as Uganda is sort of insulated from getting into touch with the real Africa – the heart of Africa, its people.
Create your own safari tour in Africa – with the assistance of someone such as ourselves and break beyond the canned safari tour and immerse yourself into the real Africa. Africa, from a cultural perspective has much to offer that is as enriching and satisfying as its wildlife and primates. Not just visiting a cultural place but time with its people – time that brings lasting memories, long after your pictures of the wildlife have faded into oblivion.
There are many ways you can create opportunities to meet the people of Africa and I am not speaking of Kodak Moments of snap a picture and off you go. Here in Africa, time is not as important as where you come from, here in Africa it is relationships over the importance of time. (do not worry when it comes to safari schedules – everything is on time).
Kampala and every town and village provides unique opportunities for cultural enrichment and exchange – there are today many cultural opportunities available to visitors. You can take an Un-Tour of Uganda that enjoys the gorillas, chimpanzees, wildlife, but also time with its people – the real pearl of Africa. A bit of extra work – a bit more planning beyond the canned tour – but it will be an eye opening immersion into the real Africa…otherwise your visit is like going swimming and all you do is dip your toes into the pool…from Kampala…jon
