The Magic of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest awaits you –an Ancient Mystical Forest – Home of half of the Mountain Gorillas in the World.

The only Forest where Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzees live together – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – Uganda

Each Mountain Gorilla Safari recreates the magical Gorillas in the Mist experience

Early morning at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest – dawn is just about to break – you step outside of your room and the most incredible sight meets your gorillas-in-the-Mist-trekeyes – the ancient forest is enveloped in a mist – even as the sun rises in the distance the trees are covered with this gentle mist – you drink your cup of coffee – the quiet is only broken by the distant cry of a primate, while up close birds create their morning symphony  – this sight alone is worth coming to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

Time for breakfast – you sit on a veranda – the early morning sun’s rays bring comfort to you as you gaze out on the incredible sight of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest before you – it is time to go for one of the most encounters of your life – a time with the Mountain Gorillas of Uganda  in one of the most incredible magical – mystical forests – a World Heritage Site – a forest that survived and plate shift of the earth that created the Western Albertine Rift Valley, the Virunga Volcanoes – 3 of which are found inside of Uganda – a very special, magical day in your life – visiting a Mountain Gorilla Family Group in this incredible setting – called Bwindi  Impenetrable – Bwindi in the local Bakiga language means the same as Impenetrable – it also alludes to darkness.

The mist is still over the the tree tops as you receive an orientation regarding your visit with the mountain gorillas –there is a small group of you, no more than 8 participant, your guides who were most likely a part of the gorilla family’s habituation process, a military escort for your protection (there have been no incidents – however Uganda Wildlife Authority does everything to ensure your safety), you can also hire a porter to look after your backpack so that you are free to take pictures without any encumbrances.

A Gorilla Trek in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest can be one or many hours – yet one of the exciting things on this special day, is the gorilla Trek itself – that time spent in the ancient forest – 12,000 years old, moving on trails that the original people (Batwa Pygmy People) of the forest used to traverse in times of old, now you are here with your small group in search of the gorilla family group for which you have permits.  Each day these gentle giants of the forest move to a new location, building new nests and your Uganda Wildlife Authority guide picks up from where they were the day before and looks for the signs of movement to the new location.

The real tracking of the gentle Giants of the forest is  now to begin for real – the guide begins to look for sign of movement such as broken limbs, footprints, and other signs that the gorilla group has gone this way – it takes patience, time, knowledge of the forest and the ways of the Mountain Gorillas and the group you are tracking.  Bwindi is not only home of mountain gorillas but also chimpanzees, though chimpanzees are not habituated here (meaning that they are used to humans – a process that takes up to two years with both mountain gorillas and chimpanzees), there are also other primates such as L’Hoest's, red tailed and blue monkeys, black and white colobus, baboon, also you just might see see forest duiker antelopes and bush buck antelopes, forest elephants, forest buffaloes, over 350 kinds of birds, over 200 different kinds butterflies and then there are the plants and trees – your trek in this rainforest in search of mountain gorillas is an awesome adventure in the ancient rainforest.

Coming upon your gorilla family group can be one hour in length or an all day event – none of which will matter, once you are there in the presence of your gorilla family, just a few meters separate you, a hush has settled over your tracking group as all are just simply captivated by what is taking place in front of their eyes – the mist over the forest has dissipated long ago – the sun is out – shining through the trees, illuminating the scene before.  An encounter with the Mountain Gorillas of Uganda at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is truly a magical, mystical experience.

The hour in the presence of the gorillas passes quickly and slowly you head back – you never imagined it to be as it was, thoughts pass through your head, there is a lightness in your step as you head toward the starting point of your gorilla trek…your gorillas in the mist experience  – it cannot be replicated anywhere else on earth but here…from Kampala…Uganda…jon
