Approaching a 1000 webpages and posts of information about Africa – focusing on Uganda – The Pearl of Africa

What is Kabiza.com?

Kabiza.Com began as a journal, before it became a website at its present address.  My personal African Travel journal from he 1990’s – an early attempt was one of those free websites and I used AOL , but then in 2001 Kabiza.com was birthed – originally I wanted to name it kabisa.com – kabisa means complete – however it had already been taken – so that is how the name kabiza came into being, which has no meaning in Swahili, however there is a town with that name in Rwanda – Today Kabiza is synonymous with information, insights into Uganda, Travel Information, life in Uganda and between 3000 to 4000 pages plus are viewed daily. During March 2012 when the Kony 2012 video came out we had about 6 days with over 100,000 pages viewed per day causing us to have to switch to a private server with more capacity.

Jon  Blanc:

About-Kabiza-Jon-BlancSimply a person with a passion for Africa, and its pearl in particular – Uganda.  Uganda is different from the other countries around it – it is authentic Africa, Africa – condensed into a small country, it is more bio-diverse, has the Big 5 plus Gorillas, Chimpanzees, the tallest Mountain Range in Africa, part of the largest lake in Africa, 26 % of its surface covered by lakes and rivers, including the historic River Nile, besides some of the friendliest people in Africa ( except when driving – hmm or cutting into a line at a supermarket or bank).  Uganda is my home, the place I write about, read about, study, visit its hidden destinations and write about.

Africa was something on my mind in my growing up years in Germany, I consumed every book I could find about Africa in those days and it was a dream to visit Africa, however that dream was not to be realized until 1992 when first came to Africa – by then I had immigrated to the USA and lived in Washington State along the Puget Sound in Birch Bay, Bellingham and Blaine, also North Vancouver Canada and on a houseboat on the Frazer River in Ladner..

Africa is a place where there is no in-between – you either love it or hate it – I happen to like Africa – especially Uganda. Africa  has like any other continent, a good, a bad, and ugly side of it, and that is addressed  both on the Kabiza Uganda Travel Blog and also on the Kabiza.com main site.

Growing up in Post-War Germany where the key word was lack was a good thing since it prepared me for the lack that the average African, Ugandan experiences, having lived in France, UK, Germany, Canada, Kenya, Rwanda, worked into South Sudan – gave me cultural experiences, all of which have prepared me for what I am doing today – showing those thinking about coming to Africa the real Africa beyond mere brochures, through the eyes of a westerner who understands the African cultures and ways.

My past includes, Relational Sales and Marketing, Public Speaking, Working with Developmentally Disabled, Humanitarian Aid and Development with a focus on African Children (South Sudan, Kenya Slums, Rwanda 94-97, Uganda, Hospitality and Lodging and the creation of Kabiza Wilderness Safaris, a boutique designer safari company, where we are proud to be small with no intention of getting large –along with my Ugandan Partner and our dedicated staff we give clients an authentic African experience – a private safari with just the client in mind, their wishes and inputs listened to and implemented- the result – satisfied clients who recommend us to others.

Presently I am in the process of building a unique African Style Safari Lodge (just 6 rooms – Kabiza Safari lodge) outside of Kampala overlooking Lake Victoria, a peaceful setting, quiet, not even electricity has reached the area- solar will work just fine and the price will be reasonable, the food will be a fusion of various cuisines with the African Touch.

Enjoy the Pearl of Africa – if you have any questions regarding Uganda please email me…from Kampala…jon
