5 Days – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Gorilla Tracking and Queen Elizabeth National Park Wildlife Safari and Chimpanzee Tracking

The Best of Uganda in 5 Days – Mountain Gorillas – Wildlife – Chimpanzees along with quality and affordability on this budget Safari

This is one of the best options for you to see the wildlife that Uganda has to offer from the mountain gorillas to elephant, tree climbing lions, hippopotamus, birds in abundance, leopards, game drives, boat ride on Kazinga Channel and tracking Chimpanzees in the Kyambura Gorge. This is one of the most popular safaris we offer, the 5 day Budget Safari where you will see, Gorillas, Chimpanzees and Wildlife at an affordable price.

Day One – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest:

Our Journey begins early and we head for the ancient Bwindi Impenetrable Forest for a visit with the MountainBuhoma-Community-Rest-Camp-Better-Budget-Lodging.jpg Gorillas of Uganda .  The journey is 9 hours long, but interesting, especially if you have not been to Uganda, not to Africa before. take in the variety of scenic landscapes, the idyllic African Villages, the small farms dotting the countryside as we journey along on our 5 day safari.

We stop of lunch along our journey

Reach Buhoma Community Rest Camp at Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in the late afternoon – 9 hour drive – self contained tents – full board – right next to the park entrance – often gorillas drift into the area. Location of lodging depends on where we get permits – there are 9 groups – we go for larger groups – plus there are four locations where to enter the park where we use other lodgings since the distances are too great on the morning of gorilla tracking.

Buhoma Community Rest Camp is a community project and proceeds from the camp aid the local community – that is something that should make you feel good about staying here.  There are furnished tents such as you see in the picture – and there are African round Bandas with thatched roofs.  The rooms are basic but clean and comfortable and self-contained with bath.

Dinner at Buhoma Community Rest Camp

Lodging:  Buhoma Community Rest Camp – tent with bath – lower options are Bandas with shared Bath.

Meal Plan:  Lunch -Dinner

Day 2 – Gorilla Tracking – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest:

Bwindi-Impenetrable-Forest-Best-Place-for-Gorilla-Tracking.jpgBreakfast – take packed lunch, be sure to have two liters of water with you and off for gorilla tracking – the experience of a lifetime. Normally it takes about 5 hours and is a bit on the rigorous side – jeans, long-sleeved shirt to avoid scratches from branches, boots, hat, some use garden gloves to pull themselves up on vines or branches, light rain jacket, backpack.

The services of a porter can be engaged (extra Cost) and you assist a Ugandan family and you can also purchase a tall walking stick that comes in handy for many and again support a Ugandan family, yes gorilla tourism makes a difference in the lives that live around Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

The actual Trek can take 5 hours or more in total, that includes one hour of being with a Gorilla family.  There are rules of conduct while tracking the gorillas and they need to be followed for the protection of the Mountain Gorillas and for your well-being.

After tracking-  there are choices in regards to activities – chill out – Village Walk – Mountain Bike Ride –a visit with the Batwa People – on some of the options are fees on chilling out there is not – obviously.

Day 3 – Ishasha – Queen Elizabeth Park:

Breakfast and we depart for Queen Elizabeth Park –1½ hours before we reach the Ishasha region – this isishasha-tree-climbing-lions.jpg the home of the Tree Climbing Lions – the best place in Africa  to see Tree Climbing lions – we take a game drive with a Uganda Wildlife Authority Ranger.  The Safari Vehicle has a pop-up roof for better game viewing.  Not only will you most likely see Tree Climbing Lions, but also leopards, herds of elephants, buffaloes, Uganda Kob and Topi Antelopes.

Ishasha is the unvisited portion of Queen Elizabeth Park, but you will be glad that you came and will be amazed by what you will find while on a game drive at Ishasha.

Lunch at Savannah Resort

We continue to the Mweya area of Queen Elizabeth Park and before checking into Bush Safari Lodge which is a permanent Tented   Camp – the tents are self-contained with bath.  But before we check in we take the 27 kilometer explosion crater drive.  This is a most scenic drive at the highest point of Queen Elizabeth Park.  See the bush-safari-lodge.jpgRwenzori Mountains of the Moon, Explosion craters, some filled with water, some clearly containing salt, other covered by savannah grass or forest. So scenic that National Geographic feature a picture of the explosion craters recently. There is also the view of the escarpment which is part of the Western Rift.

Continue to Bush Tented Camp- it is located on the Kazinga Channel – wildlife passes through the camp – you are a bit  up on stilts as this is a permanent camp. You have a nice deck, the tent is furnished and each tent has a unique and private Bush Shower area in the back of each tent. Relax and get settled in.

Dinner

Lodging:  Bush Safari Lodge – Bandas with bath – or shared bath staying in a furnished tent.

Meal Plan:  Breakfast – Lunch -Dinner

Day 4 – Queen Elizabeth Park:

Breakfast and we drive to the Kyambura Gorge for Chimpanzee Tracking.  The Kyambura Gorge is part of Kyambura-the-lost-Gorge-Valley-of-the-Apes.jpgthe Western Rift and as you come near it you will find this huge gash in the savannah, that gash is the Kyambura Gorge, part of the Western Rift.

After an orientation you go out with guides and trackers to track our closest cousins, the chimpanzees.

Like the gorillas they are habituated which means that they are used to human beings and do not scamper off when humans show up in their area.  Again, like with Gorilla Tracking, chimpanzee tracking is a most amazing encounter.  One hour with the chimpanzees of Kyambura Gorge another amazing experience in your five days on Safari in the Pearl of Africa.

Lunch

Afternoon a wildlife boat safari  on Kazinga Channel at 3pm.  The boat will be moving along the banks of the Kazinga-Channel-Boat-Ride.jpgchannel toward Lake Edward where you will see the  largest concentration of hippos in Africa, hundreds of birds and normally a bird watcher will see over 40 species of birds on the two-hour boat safari – herds of elephants coming down to water, larger herds during the dry season, buffalo herds and  late in the afternoon you find an occasional predator coming to water before going out on a night’s hunt.

The boat safari is a slow moving affair so that you get the best opportunities for taking pictures – the boat safari is one of  is one of the highlights of your visit to Queen Elizabeth National  which is a tapestry of Natural wonders that you will find most amazing.

Dinner

Lodging:  Bush Safari Lodge – Bandas with bath – or shared bath staying in a furnished tent.
