Uganda Background and History:

  • CIA - The World Fact Book - Uganda:  The CIA probably always gets it right in their background or facts about a country, nevertheless there is some very good information to be found here, including maps, statistics, flag of country and a lot more.

  • The History of Uganda:  An excellent site for given the visitor the background and history for present Uganda.  I have visited this site often and always enjoyed it.

  • The Government of Uganda:  This is the official website of Uganda's government, it actually is put together quite well and gives a lot of background and information with the usual diatribe how wonderful things are.

  • Uganda's Benevolent Dictatorship:  A look at Yoweri Museveni, President of Uganda.


 

Uganda News and Media:

  • The New Vision:  One of my favorite African Newspapers-even though it is the government's version of news it has an air of independence about it.

  • The Monitor:  Uganda's independent newspaper.  I used to love their editorials and gossip section.  Nothing like it in the world.

  • Central Broadcasting Service: Also known as Radio Buganda.  A truly local Radio Station that reflects its cultural values and ways in the music it plays and news it broadcasts.


 

Uganda Society and Culture:

  • Women of Uganda Network:  Background information on gender issues in Africa and in Uganda in particular.  The links are great.

  • Languages of Uganda:  You need more than English and Swahili here.

  • The Buganda Home Page:  If you are a Mugandan, you belong to the Baganda tribe, are a Mugandan and speak Luganda and live in Uganda.

  • Straight Talk:  Uganda's weapon in fighting HIV - AIDS amongst its youth.

  • Youth against AIDS - Uganda Report::  Here you read some staggering statistics, but also some hopeful ones.

  • Mifumi Project for Women and Girls:    A project of empowerment and education for women and girls...addressing the issues of women and girls in Uganda and lots more from the price of a bride to abuse, from the education of girls to business opportunities for women.  The site has been updated and comes across in a powerful and compassionate manner.

  • Stella Atal - African Paintings and Postcards:  Quality paintings and postcards from the Pearl of Africa - Uganda.  Even if you are not going to buy the reasonably priced cards, it is worth a look at the site.

  • MusicUganda.com:  Uganda's leading music and entertainment website. Features artists, mp3s, movies, nightspots, reviews, traditional instruments and a lot more.

  • Kampala Entertainment:  Traditional entertainment, the Afriko Band and theatres.

Uganda - Humanitarian Aid Organizations:

  • Ambassadors of Hope International:  Works with children in the slums and educates them, giving them a future and a hope.  A non-profit agency, registered in the USA and all donations from American donors are tax-deductible

  • Fields of Life:  This site represents a work of grace in Africa.  I have seen a lot of organizations there, but here you have someone who pours their heart and soul into Africa. Touching a community outside of Kampala in a truly effectual manner.  Educating children, bringing health and well-being to a village, instilling hope and faith.  This is a site I personally endorse and believe in.

  • Abaana:  Meaning children - is  a faith based humanitarian relief & child sponsorship organization with heart.  I have met the founder and know his heart for Africa, to serve and empower children to become what they were meant to be through a life giving education.
