  • The Express on Line:  This is a weekly newspaper with more in-depth articles.  It ranges from health advice to business news.  I am enjoying it.

  • The East African:  This is one of my favorite newspapers in East Africa. It is a weekly newspaper and is independent of government.  It is published in Nairobi but sold all over East Africa and covers Tanzania.

  • Arusha Times:  Weekly newspaper from Arusha, Tanzania, includes the latest from UN Tribunal on Rwanda that meets in Arusha.


 

Tanzanian Web Portals and Search Engines:

  • TANserve:  This is Tanzania's leading web portal and search engine.  Great place to start when it comes to do some research on Tanzania.  Read local news, learn Swahili and much more.  Bookmark this site.

  • Bongoland.net:  Bringing Tanzanians together from near and far.  This is an excellent site for those who want to learn about Tanzania and go there, or for Tanzanians that want to stay in touch with Africa.   A great site that I found enjoyable.

  • Tanzania Start Page:  This is an excellent Tanzania start page for someone trying to find information and background on Tanzania.  Nice touch and continuous updates.

  • Noamba.com:  This is another page that gives you all you need to get started with Tanzania.  You can buy a house, get a job, find a joy...I did not find "meet a mate."


Tanzanian Society and Culture:

  • Sukuma Culture and Tanzania:  This is a look at the Sukuma Tribal culture.  There are lots of pictures and resources that give one insight into one of the people groups of Tanzania.

  • Women of Tanzania:  A good background of general information women in Tanzania.  A short informative page.

  • Swahili Language and Culture:  Ali Hassan is a Tanzanian living in Ottawa, Canada. His Kanga Writings are proverbs and sayings in Swahili written on the cotton cloth worn by women. The site has a History of Kanga, by Odemari S. Mbuya, links to pages of other Tanzanians, information on internet service providers in Tanzania, etc.


Tanzanian Art and Entertainment:

  • Tanzanian Pop Music:  Articles that review popular music from Tanzania. 

  • Arusha Music:  This is the place for music scene in Arusha Tanzania.  Certainly a must look for the music fan.

  • Tingatinga:  An art-form that has swept East Africa and Northern Europe.  Eduardo S. Tingatinga made Tanzania his home and developed a way of painting that is simply called Tingatinga, take a look at his work and read this most interesting article.

  • Mwanza Guide 'online':  This is the official web guide to What, How, Where and When in Mwanza, Tanzania. These pages have been designed with the leisure or business traveler in mind, looking to find out more information about the ‘Capital of Sukumaland’

  • US State Department Tanzania Travel Information:  This information covers both the mainland the island of Zanzibar.  It includes useful travel tips from insurance to safety issues.

  • Zanzibar Net:  A travel web portal for Zanzibar.  It has all the information that will make your trip to Zanzibar a delight.

  • Nyumbani Heritage Accommodation:  This is a wonderful home that represents the best in Dar es Salaam self-catering accommodations.  Stay a week at a reasonable price and experience Tanzania.

  • Dhow Palace Zanzibar:  The Dhow Palace, with its Arabian archways, authentic Zanzibar antiques and ornate ornaments, was originally an Omani mansion dating back to the 1870s. It is certainly one of the best hotels in Stone Town. The rooms are spacious, luxuriously appointed and the service is impressively friendly.
